  • I got recommended a Specialized Alias rather than a Toupe, because of my size and the weight of shit I'm generally toting around with me. And I'm seriously pleased about the extra padding - I could actually do with a little more maybe.

So I'm now using a 2010 Alias, have been for a few weeks. It's comfy, flat so I can slide backwards or forwards a little if I need to adjust my position and it's re-educating my arse in what a saddle should feel like. I now realise I have been sitting astride the neck of the saddle whenever I've ridden before and this is the first time I'm actually sitting on my sit bones. Which is a strange and slightly uncomfortable thing which will take a while of getting used to, but on the plus side, I haven't had a whisper of numb-cock syndrome since I bought it.

I now have the problem though of trying to completely readjust the way I sit on the bike, where to position the saddle, how hight the seatpost should be etc. It's really odd to think that I've not sat properly on a bike since I took up riding again a few years ago. Odd, but a lot more comfortable in th long run...
