Nice one, I'm moving back on Saturday and will be riding most days the following week. If you want to come along give me a shout, that is if you aren't too busy with the mediocrity of freshers' week.

Make sure to pop along to Wests too!
What're you studying then?

So is anybody going to be at brunel in 2010-11?
Super early to ask, I know, but I've somehow convinced myself that by then I'll be the only bicyclenger left.

Maps are available to provide the answer to this question.
Slough -> Windsor about 3 miles, off road options available on the Thames path, Jubilee River or just riding across the meadows.
Slough -> Uxbridge about 8 miles, theoretically there's a canal tow path route but I haven't tried it, looked on the map once for a tow path all the way from Slough to Hoxton, but it goes all around the houses as the canals were built to follow the contours as much as possible to reduce the number of locks. I don't head in that direction for rides - too much traffic. West of Windsor out towards Reading there are loads of quiet-ish roads and no hills which will tax you either going up or coming down on normal town gearing. Head north into the Chilterns and you definitely need gears or a major dose of HTFU.

hey, am riding fixed and geared (shock!) in harrow.
Normally on my plug but looking forward to my brand new Villiers custom build this week!
Me and a mate often ride out into the chilterns through uxbridge.. unfortunately the local clubs tend to be mostly 40 yrs + (no offense to anyone, they are pretty fast) - however it would be great to ride with some guys/gals born in the 80's onwards, pop culture and all that.
On a separate note I spent the summer using the canal to commute into town. the surface is pretty rough from greenford heading towards uxbridge but tolerable from Alperton into paddington. It makes a nice change from dodging morons on the harrow road.

I'm only down the road from you in lovely Watford
Seen a few fixed gems roll through here now and then which is nice

When Im more confident I might hop on a train/ride out to you lot sometime.

Well there seems to be plenty of us here in MetroLand. There is also the Hillingdon Cycle track which I use several times a week for circuits as part of my recovery programme following a head injury.
I use the Greenford/Northolt stretch of the canal to Hillingdon regularly. But, as Yodasm9 said, can be rough but doable. You can also run out to Rickmansworth or into town at a leisurely pace using it.
