Having spent a fair while posting on and reading cycling and football messageboards I find this place relatively enlightened. The glossy photo shite is one thing; what I find infinitely more off-putting is the continual unthinking reiteration of the assumption that cycling is mainly for men, and that the posts are written for and by men. This is usually entirely innocently done; it's so entrenched as to not even need any malice aforethought. That we need special sparkly clothing, or special pink bikes, or that forum members should be 'getting their girlfriends into cycling', as if we were recalcitrant horses being trained to juggle.
