  • i think we are past that and onto hugs!

  • Absolutely.. its fuckin quiche and cuddles time!

  • Mugs you say?

  • How about a great big hug in a mug?

  • I had asparagus and parmesan frittata yesterday, including the bits Tynan spat out. Yum.

People used to give me weird looks when I'd eat cold cheese & onion quiche* straight out of the box, usually huddled in a corner outside a supermarket in the lunch hour. I could see them judging me and thinking I was nasty.

  • dammit - got here too late! and i had a lovely big gallon drum of virtual petrol all ready to throw with an 'all men are potential rapists' '70's feminist throwback stance...

but really i'm with Stelle - who gives... if the posts people make mean they come over as sexist/racist/homophobic, it means at some level they probably are. but life's too short and i've got better things to do than call up every fucker who makes some throwaway offfensive comment on an internet forum.

but hugs? definitely, always well up for hugs :) even if they are sometimes a little bit patronising, as long as it means he'll reach something down off the shelf for me...

  • VB - can I point out something that is quite trivial but at the same time, important. I think people might literally be seeing the forum in different ways. E.g, I dunno about you guys, but my homepage is not londonfgss.com, but http://www.londonfgss.com/search.php?do=getdaily, which is basically the 'POSTS' button on the top left, so I don't notice what sub-forum/group a particular thread has been posted in, because all recent threads with new posts in them come up indiscriminantly. I have a feeling most people, especially newer members, are going straight londonfgss.com, which is what we brand ourselves as to the public, then clicking 'General' or "Mics + Mean".

Maybe some people are seeing a thread in Misc and Mean and then assuming it's fair game to say whatever they want in it, derail it, post pictures of cakes and motivational posters - whatever, which is kind of fair enough in a way because that's how it is in most other forums out there - there is a specific place to post drivel if so desired, and it doesn't (or shouldn't) permeate the other parts of the forum.

I just noticed this thread is posted in "Forum Help and Testing Area". I didn't even know this subgroup existed, as i've always clicked on "POSTS". It has only 16 people viewing, compared to 125 for Bikes and Bits, and 79 for General. So, most people logging in to 'londonfgss.com' will just not see this thread. Don't we need a system where we all physically see the forum the same way, like the old vanilla-style forum? Maybe make the "POSTS" button more prominent or something, I dunno. I think it's harder to come to a consensus on things if we are seeing it in different ways.

wouldn't it make sense to have a misc forum and a separate meaningless forum?

the misc forum would essentially be the same as m+m now but the meaningless forum would just be for inane crap so that people can get it out of their system.

    oui/non?

  • What about having 2 misc forums one for everyone else and then a 2nd for me, Balki and GreasyDave. We'd be prepared to share it with the kids during school holidays.

  • dammit - got here too late! and i had a lovely big gallon drum of virtual petrol all ready to throw with an 'all men are potential rapists' '70's feminist throwback stance...

Never too late dude... this shitstorm has legs for sure.

You'll have an angry mob at your door for causing virtual polloution, melting the virtual polar ice caps and mudering virtual kittens, petrol is the blood of Satan!

    =P

People would take offence if I moved a thread into the meaningless forum. At the moment I guess they just assume I thought it was miscellany.

  • maybe it's time for my valerie solanas joke?

how many men does it take to tile a bathroom?

    2 - if you slice them v-e-r-y v-e-r-y thinly

I don't think this is something to particularly worry about, I think people would quickly get the idea that if they post crap it will be labelled as such. Also it would give others the opportunity to actively post crap without fear of being called up for posting irrelevant nonsense, and would keep the rest of the forum clean.

Actually, mmcarthy... I think Fitzy was referring to a virtual feminist bra-burning, which would be ok... and within their rights.

Perhaps it should be user based, rather than thread based. We could put an upside down brown star next to the little yellow star beside the users name if they were designated as miscellaneous and meaningless. This would enable the meaninful users to quickly identify which posts to skim read before getting down with the real issues from their fellow meaningful users.

  • some people wouldnt take offence, mentioning no names coughdovcoughbalki, in fact i think they'd be quite proud.

  • I don't post much on here. This doesn't make me quiet in real life, or un-opinionated, or less inclined to cycle - it just means I don't constantly get fucked off and start hating people who - wily bastards- may actually turn out to be really nice in the pub or wherever.

We need more diversity instead of re-hashing fucking out-moded binaries and hierarchies. It's the generalizing that pisses me off the most. We're all so different it's senseless to lump us into categories.

  • I think you're right. Nasty through and throught. Unfortunately there will always be 'bad apples'
I just can't wait until the 'View Tag Authors' function is rolled out. Then lots of peple will be seen in the light they deserve.

    ^^^that's there is the truth

    Amen
