We actually went off-route at Willingale--not that it matters much, but the planned route involved turning right out of The Street, not left. Both lanes are lovely and there isn't much difference, really. I think the way via Fyfield Road and Norton Lane is shorter, as the Spains Hall Road/Norton Heath Road/Willingale Road route is so twisty.
