The trouble is in close tight groups when someone decides to ignore the advice of the experienced coaches, they endanger not only themselves but everyone around them too. I imagine thats why the responses were a bit harsh.
It doesn't matter how much experience you have on the road. Doesn't mean you can get away with not following the coaches instructions. Unfortunately it seems like he learned this the hard way with a nasty injury.
