I think there's a sort of improvement in intonation when you have more strings aswell... Look at the length of a bass neck/ space of frets compared to a guitar... When you have an instrument that's using guitar and bass strings like on a Novax then there will obviously be a difference in note spaces between the strings...
Maybe not the best explanation of it but you know what I mean...
