  • I have something to ask.

Do I need to prepare helmet for long riding??

  • I wonder if going there and back fixed is beyond my capabilities...

  • I have something to ask.

Do I need to prepare helmet for long riding??

It's not mandatory. Usually helmet to non-helmet rate is about 50/50.

  • I'll be wearing a helmet. Darkness + unfamiliar roads + potential bonk = sufficient risk.

as efc says, as you wish. On dunwich this year almost everyone (ok, about 80%) wore helmets.

  • I was actually thinking of wearing one today. I probably won't but recent helmet threads have made me think about such things once again.

Work has commited! I'm out I'm afraid.

  • wtf are you talking about? you don't need to bring a lock on a ride..... most of the time in London I don't even carry a lock - the best way to avoid having your bike nicked is not to leave it alone

    Yeah, same with me.

I got so hungry one time I couldn't find a place like a fruit stall or something, or anywhere I could take my bike in, so I kindly asked a woman in KFC to let me bring it in. KFC, I know. Junk. But I was HUNGREH.
90% of my rides I don't bring my Lock, unless I plan to need it.

Just on this ride, I though some people would be hanging about for a while.

Yah, I only brought it up because I thought some folks may spend some time down in Brighton.

  • I won't be coming guys. Woke up late, couldn't find a place that sells Spoke Wrenches.
I was looking forward to this ride :( why the hell did my wheel have to go bent on me a day before.

  • OK, we have brilliant weather and apparently tomorrow is supposed to be even nicer. It looks as if we're as lucky as last time. Perhaps there's a chance we could see the sun rise from the top of Ditchling? Hm.

All: Helmets are of course not mandatory. I won't wear one and so will many others. Technically, people are riding at their own risk on this ride, so wear what you feel comfortable with.

And you definitely don't need to bring a lock unless you plan to travel on alone at any point when no-one else can watch your bike if you leave it somewhere. No liability is assumed by anyone else on the ride, but I've never heard of a bike going missing on a ride like this.

Ah, I'm looking forward to this.

Dropout and balmain, any news yet on whether you'll be able to make it down? Would be great to have you!

Bad luck, Martin, sorry to hear you can't come. Better luck next time!

  • Power nap failure, looks like strong coffee stops on the way. See you at 10ish

Work has commited! I'm out I'm afraid. Thats the London for you !

  • Power nap failure, looks like strong coffee stops on the way. See you at 10ish

Gotta love the naps before a good cycle.

  • I don't know about anyone else, but I'm feeling a little sleepy after that pootle into the fresh south air. Top organising as ever Oliver, shame the Fuzz had to spoil our fun.

  • OK--despite a fair few no-shows (you were missed, guys!) we got a great group together. I even managed to remember all the names this time! A few people without forum names--James, Naomi, Georgia, Marn, Chris (who did promise to register on his iPhone on the train back, he, he), and Paul (sorry if you do have a forum name, Paul, you probably told me three times, but I'm afraid I can't remember!), but also ehren_fried_chicken, owenreed, bryce lyall, siri, slopster, kyungsoo, middleofnowhere, Deluka, serk, lyes888, mc_nebula, fred, wools, and Stix. And, of course, the chase after us by Spins and PinkGottiMobbs!

Where were kx.001 and his dad? :( ;)

    All made it to Brighton!

This was a fairly eventful ride, not all events positive--I can't be bothered to post about Gitwack right now, but an initially chilly and then increasingly beautiful and warming sunrise was had by all on top of Ditchling Beacon, which hopefully rewarded the effort of getting up it. Fairly perfect timing as far as sunrise spectating was concerned. A lovely descent into Brighton in glorious sunshine that got clouded over again after about an hour. Usefully, all our political awareness experienced an increase by a considerable factor ahead of a very nice breakfast at the excellent Izzy Cafe.

Thanks to all for coming along, it was such a nice group!

This was the last overnight ride to Brighton that I'll organise this year. There will be one more for the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run on the 1st of November, but that'll be more a case of not sticking together and riding down with the veteran cars!

  • Sounds like a good ride guys. I'm annoyed I was unable to make it.

I'm definately going to have to true my wheel asap as I can't really afford to buy a nice new set right now. Just coming out of University and all. Eck...

Glad it turned out successful however, anyone get any videos/photos?

  • anyone get any videos/photos?

Some, yes. We had fred and Stix along, after all. :)

  • Gutted I couldn't go, but I went to a wake on Friday night and spent Saturday nursing a hangover and trying to get back from deepest Norfolk. Next time!

Down for the vintage car rallye, defo.

  • I feel I need set my bike fit my body I coudn't roll pedals on every downhill
my hip was wave left to right I couldn't control my legs.
also I need much more practice. but It was really good. (I didnt expect I could be investigate by airport police hhhh) Thank you to Oliver and another people
    see you!

  • Didn't get any good pics

    Clearly. :)

  • Oh your right that it isn't any easier going back home on that route. The Gatwick to London hills are nasty!
