  • Okaay....

  • okay so gonna be heading over to carnival for two approx.
if you've got my number hit me up and we'll see if we can arrange some sort of rendezvous...

  • Anyone planning to go on to Leftside Wobble's Carnival top-up? I'll be there from about 6...

  • is it a completely stupid idea to ride to this?

the pubic transport is, as always, up the creek

do any locals have any suggestions as to safe-r places to lock up?

  • carnival used to be a great day out....then the police took over and now you just get pushed around, squeezed against metal fencing and hassled all day. It's also full of tourists. i miss the good ole days. You only get trouble if you look for it!

  • Taking a bike to carnival??!? Good luck...

  • Last time I went to carnival my mate gave some geezers a few tokes on his spliff, then some percy for FREE then got bottled with a wine bottle for his generosity. Which was nice....

  • pistonator-
i don't fancy taking my bike anywhere near the actual carnival...

i don't know the area terribly well, looking at a map i might lock it at the whiteley's shopping centre nearby if the bike racks are conspicuous enough

open to any other suggestions however...

my bike is not worth the effort to steal, however this is, as ever, no deterrent

its just that the idea of trying to get home via PT in twelve hours fills me with dread...

  • I'm a 10 minute walk from the Carnival.

So if anyone wanted leave their bike at my place while Carnivaling just let me know.

Today's cooler temperatures should mean fewer hot heads and a more safe and enjoyable event.

    Tomorrow will be warmer.

  • I cycled from Hackney last year...along the canal makes for a good ride and you can get pretty close to the heart of things. I actually locked right by the canal side (two krypto locks) and was there when i came back. beats doing battle with public transport and there's enough cops around that walking around with bolt croppers and angle grinders you would look pretty conspicuous

  • legend, thanks gus.

hadn't considered the canal, was just going by the TfL suggested route (which i am learning is not always ideal; it sent me down a one-way street the wrong way recently)

may try the canal and yelling 'ding ding ding' in lieu of a working bell

Use CycleStreets.net instead, Cara. Much better.

  • legend, thanks oliver!

  • this site is great oliver, thanks!

i especially like that cycle shops and pubs are indicated along the route...

and pictures of the torrington place route changes! genius...

  • Mixed race ! They are the worst, they don't know which side their bread is buttered on.

    • other vague analogies.

We're the best of both worlds.

  • tomorrow is going to be egg sell ent.

  • Any murders yet or is that normally saved til Monday?

  • I walked through before on the way home, saw a few bodies on the side of the road but they looked to be victims of booze rather than knives.
huge barriers of cops throughout the carnival.

They are keeping the noise down as well this year normally the house shakes as we are at the end of the route but today it's been not to bad.
There are mobile cctv vans all over the place as well.

Bikes - I saw alot of people walking through ladbrooke grove with them but taking them into the main areas would be crazy.

transport wise - use Holland Park station it's the best to get in and out of seems to always be the place no one knows about and they give you a free drink when you get out.

being as i am half turkish / half sri lankan

i can either put a fatwa on your head or chant a couple of buddist mantras for your bad kharma tynan..

    god bless you pal, lol...

  • That was fun, although I'll never drink again.

    Ready for day two!

  • would you like a drink?

  • parade starts at 1 right?

  • Great day yesterday. Got there at 12 and stayed till 11 and saw no trouble. Good to see you corny. My head hurts and my ears are riiiinnnggging.

  • Think I'm going to venture on over at about half 1.... 3 years in london and yet to bother with the hassle; so today is the day my friends! Now to prep the rum punch. Can I turn up to sth drinks tonight reasonably lubed with no bike?

  • Leave your bike at the climbing centre and its only a 5 min walk to Ladbroke Grove, got woken up today by a fcuking massive mobile sound stage rumbling past my flat and it was a laugh looking at the pissed up tourists (aussies) having trouble standing and holding on to lamp posts for support last night though lol

@dmczone red stripe illness, Courvoisier illness or Cockspur madness?
