I picked up this thread from the CCC web-site. As a woman cyclist, I would be very annoyed if someone set up men only rides. I dislike discrimination in any form.
The point of this group is to make cycling more diverse in its entirety. While leisure rides e.g. those organised by LCC have a fairly equal male to female ratio, slightly faster club runs have far more men than women. This can be intimidating for some female cyclists - myself included - because it makes it all a bit weird, unless you like being the minority in a situation.
This group is aiming to address that and to encourage women to cycle. It is not aiming to discriminate or exclude men.
But of course, you are welcome to your own opinion
Just to warn you it goes down a towpath, through the Olympic construction site (though that bit's pretty cool, right past the stadium) and down East Ham High Street. But the bit out past Barking Creek is quite neat, all big flat roads with hardly any traffic and lots of wind turbines and the stench of the Thames.
