Have to say, I am loving my HOLD FAST straps. I had to harvest the platforms from my BMX, but they mounted quick. These straps are super comfortable, I swear they make tricks easier too (I pulled my first 3-tap within an hour). They hug your foot right and sit more over the arch of the foot, less on the toes, than traditional clips & straps. I was bit worried that they wouldn't hold up while bombing through traffic, but they have proven to be as solid as traditional toe clips in that area. These straps are beefy! They also hold their shape real well, unlike powergrips. They are also waay easier to adjust for different shoes. I was also able to get mine in red. All in all, I've decided to never go back to toe clips, so long as I can get some HOLD FAST straps.
Now somebody's got to do a comparison between Jol's straps and the HOLD FAST straps (and I'd be happy to do it, hint). Honestly, the hardware on HOLD FAST straps seems pretty indestructible. And I know that Jol relies only on the velcro, so I wonder which would give our first - the velcro or the buckle? I'm gonna guess the velcro will fail first, especially if you adjust it often. Anybody know the usage life of velcro? I also wonder how these straps will hold up in heavy rain or in winter conditions (guess I'll find out soon enough).
Anybody else riding HOLD FAST?

I'd say the webbing will wear out before either.

You can't smash velcro into several pieces, metal buckles on the other hand......
-
• #61
metal loops tend not to smash into several pieces, they may bend, but not usually smash...and isn't that what's on the Hold fast straps, not buckles?
Webbing on the other hand is one of the least abrasion resistant materials around.
That's why powergrips are made with a special webbing/glass fiber material. -

Hold Fast use buckles and loops I think...
Obviously velcro and webbing are more resistant to smash/shock damage and less to abrasion.
Layers of velcro and webbing seem to hold up pretty well so far. Polyprop/nylon webbing is used to secure loads to trucks etc where tension and abrasion are both factors. That tells me that it should hold up okay. Time will tell.

Polyprop webbing has the worst abrasion resistance of all webbing.
Polyester and nylon have the best. Those hold fast straps are fucking ugly in my opinion.

Like you said they can bend/twist, get damaged, in my opinion one unlucky bail or two and you could be looking at new straps if those metal loops get trashed, whereas if you remove all hardware you reduce the likelihood of your whole foot retention set up getting trashed in a short space of time ;)

Agreed, that logo makes me wanna vomit.

crazyjames and braveeagle3, being a advertising man myself, i should advise you guy to let whoever is writting most of your posts to make it a little more subtle!
I'm all for a peer to peer advice type of advertising/promotion but posts #51, #57 and #64 are totally like 4am telesales.
don't get me wrong, I am seriously considering buying JOL straps! and again, nothing against having fellow riders promoting stuff, just don't get all 'prolly' on us!

Anybody else seen these?

They look to be mostly made of straight webbing. I think they would be really floppy from the outset. Not so good for getting into.
-
• #71
They look shit, if you're riding brakeless there is no way in hell I would trust them as my one and only braking method.

• #72
those burro straps look terrible!

i am also looking for uk distro of hold fast.
Oh just to let everyone know, these things had a really good testing last week as well, in the piss poor excuse of a summer we have where we got torrential rain nearly 3 days in a row, they held my feet in perfectly, didn't slip, and just worked, thats what I love about these straps, they just work!
With my double straps I was forever fucking around re-tightening things, adjusting them, tightening them when they stretched, with the Gurney straps I just "adjust and go™" (eat that vidal sassoon!), no faffing around, jump straight on my bike and ride off, and they are comfffffffy as a cushion on your foot.
