controversial. the first film "and now for something completey different" is cack. it was a collection of the most popular sketches re-done for film. all that spontenaity and anarchic wit was lost in the recreation. it's got all the atmosphere of 6th form drama college end of year show.

i'm not fond of the meaning of life either. too dark, too meandering. it's sort of depressing, dream-like and creepy in a grim 70s sort of way. also it's not actually that funny. some great moments as always but way more miss than hit i reckon.

holy grail and brian are just pure relentlessly joyous genius though. everything about them is fantastic, the premise, the stories, the scripts, the delivery, the sets, the scenery, the songs. just pure blinding brilliant from start to end.

having said that i do find find brian in particular quite difficult to sit though now because i killed it with obsessively repeated teenage viewings. and both have suffered the curse of being endlessly quoted by irritating pricks (a la withnail) until you can't watch the films without being annoyed by memories of the school chess-club "ni!"-ing each other to orgasm.

but that's not the film's fault.
