  • Sorry dude... the legalities are less important than common sense.

I rode towards old street roundabout recently with a less experienced rider. We got off and pushed the button. Will do so again if required.

And thats fine, its your choice, but if you don't follow the rules, other people have every right to be annoyed with you. You make the choice, be it RLJ or whatever, but be aware that if you step out on a zebra pushing your bike, cars are not obliged to stop for you.

Edit: Anyone who walks out onto a zebra without checking that the cars are stopping is of course an idiot.

  • Are you fucking serious?

  • Are you not a pedestrian whilst pushing your bike?

  • Are you not a pedestrian whilst pushing your bike?

    Nope

    Yes they are.

  • but be aware that if you step out on a zebra pushing your bike, cars are not obliged to stop for you.

    Frankly, that's bollocks.

you're still a peds if you push your bike.

  • Nope

I'd like to see you argue that.

  • I'd like to see you argue that.

I'm not the one who is going to be doing it. So it doesn't worry me if you do. You can be done for pushing your bike the wrong way up a one way street.

  • Missing the point entirely.

  • ... if you step out on a zebra pushing your bike, cars are not obliged to stop for you..

    ? what!?

so when I pushed my friends bike which had buckled wheels from being under a taxi a few weeks back and he was too stunned and battered to push it, over zebra crossings it would have been legal to run us over?

    serious?

you been reading Cheech and Chong's "high" way code?

  • I'm not the one who is going to be doing it. So it doesn't worry me if you do. You can be done for pushing your bike the wrong way up a one way street.

No you can't. There would be a shit load of threads whinging about it on here.

    You sir, are an idiot

I am down in Chichester for a couple of months, a very cycle friendly place - the majority of Ped Crossings here have a separate bicycle button to press for a cyclist, as the cycle lanes use the Ped Crossings to ensure you can cross over without putting yourself at risk There are also lots of Ped Crossings in London (e.g coming out of hyde park) that are also designed for cyclists

  • You can be done for pushing your bike the wrong way up a one way street.

    now I know you're having a laugh.

    very funny

  • Mirius, Im sure Ironsloth is very pleased you chimed in.

  • No you can't. There would be a shit load of threads whinging about it on here.

The fact that the police no longer bothering enforcing it doesn't make it any less illegal. But I see, because there aren't lots of winging threads it must be true. I'll remember that next time I get stopped by the police for something. I'll refer them to here and tell them they must be wrong. lol

Crossings designated for cyclists are by definition designated for cyclists. And your point is?

    yep, Toucan crossings

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toucan_crossing

  • So why do you think there are Toucan crossings? If all pedestrian crossings can be used by cyclists, why would they design a special one for cyclists?

  • . You can be done for pushing your bike the wrong way up a one way street.[/quote]

No fucking cunts gonna 'do' 'me' for pushing my bike up or down any road/pavement/ that happens to be their perception of the 'wrong way'..... arghhhhh I don't care who they are...... just not happening. I'm gonna test this wt the rozzers as soon as i get a chance ;-)

  • found this from an article on the wonderful world of the internet;**

    'CARRY THAT BIKE!'

Don't fall for the piffle that you have to carry a bicycle when on a footway or pedestrian crossing. Anyone pushing a bicycle is a "foot-passenger" (Crank v Brooks [1980] RTR 441) and is not "riding" it (Selby). In his judgment in the Court of Appeal in Crank v Brooks, Waller LJ said: *"In my judgment a person who is walking across a pedestrian crossing pushing a bicycle, having started on the pavement on one side on her feet and not on the bicycle, and going across pushing the bicycle with both feet on the ground so to speak is clearly a 'foot passenger'. If for example she had been using it as a scooter by having one foot on the pedal and pushing herself along, she would not have been a 'foot passenger'. But the fact that she had the bicycle in her hand and was walking does not create any difference from a case where she is walking without a bicycle in her hand."

  • Fair enough Ed, you've got more recent case law

  • I should have been run over yesterday then, as I was pushing the bike to get the tyres pumped up!

  • Who cares about fucking case law.

    This is stupid.

  • I should have been run over yesterday then, as I was pushing the bike to get the tyres pumped up!

Do you make a habit of walking out over zebras before checking that the traffic is actually stopping? If yes, then you are going to get hit sooner or later because law and reality are not the same. If no, then there isn't a problem.

  • Who said I didn't check before crossing, wtf?
