  • Velo Orange is now offering BB an headsets with French threads, so will be easy to rescue old Peugeots, Motobecane, Gitanes.

  • Got one of these today, will be reading back.

  • you might have trouble finding a seatpost... i might have one

  • It's 24.17mm, though I think it got loosened a wee bit

  • This may be out of place, but I'm converting my Gitane to SS... Since I live in France, I'm just about certain that it's a french BB, but I don't have the tools to take the cranks apart...(I only took all the parts off today...)

I take it the BB louisc mentioned is this one :

Does it allow you to put any crank on a french BB ?

Another question...(might aswell get them all out !):
@miro_o : What rims have you got on your grey pug ? Is the braking surface black originally, or have you been abusing some Sharpies ...? ; )

Sorry if some of the questions are a wee bit dumb... I'm new...

  • Oh, and whilst removing my (obviously, threaded) headset, some "bits stayed on my frame and fork... Does anyone have any ideas about removing them, Because I doubt they'r epart of the frame... Any help appreciated ! Thanks (photos attached)

  • you can put a flat head screwdriver down the headtube and rest the tip on the ridge of the cup and whack it out with a hammer. remember to move the screwdriver around after a few whacks otherwise you may damage the the frame/headset. same goes for the bearing race on the fork, screwdriver and hammer. (this is what i would do, it might not be the correct method so don't blame me if you brake your frame)

i was wondering, why are you taking off the headset? are you getting a respray or is the headset knackered? sometimes a little grease can work wonders or new bearings, that way you don't have to mess around so much.

  • Respray it is !
I'll post some pictures when it's all finished, but that may take quite a while...

i actully had a pug seatpost in my hand yesterday, i put it somewhere 'safe' and then forgot where i put it (don't you hate when that happens!?) anyway, i'm sure it will turn up sooner or later.

  • Does anyone on her have any UO8 spares that they have ripped from their pug I can exchange for some cash?

Specifically Mafac breaks and Simplex friction shifter bits.

  • haha ! Success ! Never would have thought of using copper.... (though the screwdriver & hammer idea worked for the fork.. chers Stallion =P)

Here'swhere the idea came form :

Get yourself a crank-extractor from your LBS. They're not expensive.

No. not any cranks! But it allows you to put JIS square taper cranks on. Chainline is another issue.

Silver Mavic cxp22 or 23s (can't remember). They are cheap and good. I sprayed them with alu primer and satin black before they were built-up.

  • just received my new to me, old peugeot frame and i was wondering if anyone could help me decipher the bb shell serial number?

there is possibly an 8 or a B or a D or it could just be a smudge then a gap and then 2054451

It was sold to me as a 531 pug but seems quite heavy, it has been refinished at some point and there are no decals, can i find out what its made of from the above sn?

    Thanks

oh and i have had a look around and search on here and on google with no luck..

    Blimey...

some of the weight might the large amount of black gloss paint thats on it

Think I may have one soon, not in a rush as still trying to sort out the frame itself

  • does any1 know what size bolt is used for the seat post clamp? i hae mine resprayed at armoutex and they took it out... and now i need to replace it

  • why can't you just measure it?

  • why can't you just measure it?

could do, but as i happened to be browsing thru this thread thought id ask

  • does any1 know what size bolt is used for the seat post clamp? i hae mine resprayed at armoutex and they took it out... and now i need to replace it
can't you ask for it back? or did they throw it away to teach you a lesson?

  • Sorry for bumming out in this thread, but as i'm still very new to this website I cannot post my own. I am rebuilding an old Peugeot Carbolite 103, and before I start collecting the parts to put it together, I need to find out what length bottom bracket (the axel part) I need to keep the chain line true. The width of the back fork is 120mm. Can anyone tell me what the ideal bb is for my bicycle? Oh, and i'm making it a one speed, not a fixie if that helps. Thanks in advance, future posters!

  • back fork makes no sense, I believe "rear drop out" is the correct phrase

  • there's a very good reason why you're not allowed to post yet another topic about a peugeot bicycle you're going to convert mate.

yes, rear drop out, aka horizontal drop out make sense, also Sheldon Brown (google) should able to help you, the chainline is usually depend on the crankset thought, some crank need 111mm, and some need just 103mm.

singlespeed or fixed wheel, it's still the same, don't worry.

  • Thanks man, oh and I calculated my chain line to be 42 mm from the 120 mm rear. Does this sound okay?
