I hate seeing people hurt themselves. It's one of the things I just can't stand to watch. I don't know whether it's because I know what it's like to get hurt trying tricks or whether it's merely because I don't really like pain (nobody does, obviously, but more than that).
After all the stupid crashing I quite enjoyed the rest of the clip. I'm a bit of a see how far and how big I can go rather than doing loads of tricks. That's probably more because I'm a trails and street rider at heart!

What be they then? Without watching the video, theres obviouslu the tailwhip and the no-pinch-of-the-seat-with-the-knees barspin, the tuck no hander... whats number 4? footjam nosepick? overhang toothpick?
Its the reason I've put off buying any new bmx vids. Because I know it's gonna be some cunt doing the same shit over and over but on different objects. BORING. what happend to back tyre grabs to fakie? framegrab one footer xups? daft but interesting tricks like 360 supercalypso's?

I do miss the 90s BMX tricks in Videos. That shit is why I still ride and it's certainly true that the new school no brakes, extra massive bars, slammed seat, wearing their emo girlfriends jeans and a T-Shirt 3 sizes too small brigade do seem very samey. And I've never liked big competition "Street" courses, vert and all that crap. It's impressive but tedious. However, there are still some riders who kill it with their variation when riding actual street. There's certainly a few video's which have come out in the last couple of years which have been worth watching, if only for one or two riders sections in them.

Sweet. So can you do raspnectars?

Like everyone I miss a lot of the old school stuff, the 90's was a great era for bmx, and a lot of my favourite riders come from that era, but inevitably things move on, and the young guns move in. I think actual street riding has progressed no end, and the fact that the x-games course is now a simulated street enviroment (instead of the previous park course thing....park is not street!), is a step towards progress, I mean who would have thought 10 years ago that people like Aaron Ross would be busting out hop whip 360's down big stair sets, or 540 hops down some substantial stair sets, and all the other mental shit that people like him are doing.
There is a lot of repetitive shit in bmx these days, but there always was, always will be, i've lost interest in park almost entirely now, but there are still plenty of amazing riders out there, you're just more likely to find them riding on the actual streets, or down the local trails.Viva Le Street, Viva Le Dirt, Viva le motherfucking progression.

"wearing their emo girlfriends jeans" made me laugh!
Reading this makes me think of simple tricks that give maximum pleasure. When I used to go jumping out of a bowel or one of the few time I road dirt jumps one of my favorite simple easy tricks was a simple toboggan. Never really got them stretched or any thing but they felt good. Step thoughs too e.t.c.

For me my favourite one was a one handed no footer, or a no footer with the legs kicked right out, simple tricks, but big smile factor :)
-
• #547
Or really fucking fast and (reasonably high....lol) 180's out of the banks at Southbank, think I even managed a couple of x-up 180's once......damn I can't wait to get my street bike finished!

I love how Mike Aitken used to 180 some ridiculously big drops, or across gaps, or at stupid high speed, I miss Mike.....there's a man with some incredible style on a bike, I hope he's able to ride like he used to again someday.

...I used to go jumping out of a bowel...
Ugh! That's disgusting!!!For me my favourite one was a one handed no footer, or a no footer with the legs kicked right out, simple tricks, but big smile factor :)
One handed no footers used to give me the big smile factor too, I entered one of the Derby jams when I was about 16 and learnt them, and various other bits and bobs during the jumpbox comp. Mal from Local clothing gave me a load of prizes despite other people doing backflips and big 360's and shit, his reason was because I had the biggest smile on my face. Which was true, I had never pulled half that shit before and was massively stoked.
It all went downhill from there and I stuck to tech miniramp tricks and street
RIP Storm skatepark and RIP Mal's back
BTW does anyone know scott the punk? http://rideukbmx.com/30-seconds/healthy-living-scott-buchanon.html Used to ride with him although he's a few years younger than me. Watching him rip at storm going real high over the box was real stokement for me, he was always so stoked and rad and positive. I aint spoken to him for ages though :(
