i like kevs idea of widening the goals.

I think widening goals is unnecessary as good attackers can score in the current situation fine and wider goals would just lend itself to more wild/long range shots which IMO is less exciting. It just seems like wanting to make things easier for ourselves rather than improving actual play.
Mallet hacking should be allowed, however i understand that it must be hard for reffs to call an overly violent attack, so

I consider hacking goalies mallet to be a bit too wild, a bit out of the gameplay. I would like to try a wider goal. I think. We'll do that in Spain maybe.
I think the goalie is a grey spot in an otherwise great game. Time will tell...

when people hack my mallet it is supper annoying but having said that as long as it is not done so savagely that it bend my mallet its fair that the goalie should not just be a tripod
being a good goalie requires loads of skill, self and bike control
I think the goalie position is one that people who are less confident in play gravitate to because they feel they can just sit there and be useful by blocking the ball with their bike so anything that challenges them to be more involved is good. In most games I have seen it also tends to be quite a gendered role in mixed teams with the girls doing a lot of the defending and the boys attacking

in your team, there's always a girl in goal.

I agree, but girls (people) should pipe up when theyve had enough of goaling.

that was an intelligent and constructive response :)
but dude for the record I don't have a team
that would require actually being able to socially interact
(no league for me this season :( -

yep I agree unfortunetly we are socially constructed to be defensive so please heckle us out of this role

and that comment is not gender specific anyone who is a shye polo'ist and sits in goal all the time should be heckled out in throw ins

good im just glad you know your place. :)

Although I do tend to gravitate to the goal, and it originally was due to a lack of confidence with regards to gameplay, I've come to learn the value and satisfaction of strong defense. In throw-ins, though, you can often find yourself in a position where nobody is willing to cover goal (generally when you're in a team of "strikers") and a game goes by too quickly when the other team can score off the break-away. Hense, defense will at least extend time in play (which is valuable when you only get 2-3 games a night).
I don't see the problem in learning how to defend early on, as it allows you to develop strong over-all play by the time you've become a confident and fast striker. And weaker players really appreciate a veteran who's willing to take some time in goal for you.
As far as goal keeping, I think mallet swiping the goalie should be allowed. With regards to reffing this, if a goal ref can be expected to determine the subtle differences between shuffles, rebounds, goals, etc., then it should be apparent when a swipe is appropriate or not. Lets not turn this into a game where we all need titanium mallets! ;)

I totally agree that strong defense is good
I just get pissy at myself when I find that I have just spent one game out of my 2-3 games
sitting in goal, unless I have been really enjoyed being thereI love it when I am having a good defense day and manage to block good shots
The games were definetely not boring. But made the rol of the goalie a bit boring yes, apart from the few times the goalie advanced a bit and took the ball.
I think, just to help goalie's boredom, and overall play... the goals should be a bit wider.
It's like as if the goal in football was as wide as the goalie's arms. This way it's like he/she just has to spread his/her arms and keep the legs tight.
My 2 cents anyway
