Thomas Hooper = winner. Fucking love his stuff. Real dark and brooding and awesome in general. Big fan.

just a heads up: the London Tattoo Convention is on from the 25th-27th of September. might be worth going if you're interested in getting something done.
I just really don't like the idea of getting inked at those things, it just seems a bit.... dirty's not the word, but not... right.. dunno how to explain.
saying that if I could get a piece by Lieu I'd do it

I had one there a few years ago, what's the fuss? They're still the same tattooists with the same hygiene procedures....

+1, plus you have more people to talk to and dont get bored!

True, but that's not really the point. I'm just admiring his work, rather than recommending him to anyone.
It is a shame though, I'd love some work by him.

it's a good place to talk to tattooists and other people whose tattoos you like. not everyone who goes will get inked.
plus it would have to be pretty clean as any festering mistakes will be seriously damaging to the studio's business.

I've never really understood paying that much money to go to a convention where you will pay just as much money to get tattooed. Do some research, if someone you like is going from a far away place they will also book a guest slot at a tattoo parlour that's local.

It's not a lot of money imo, you get to see other work done, all their portofolios in one day, some people would travel for a good artist, plus to get to see who win what awards and there's usually awesome non tattoo stalls.

Never been able to afford it, that's why I said too much money :-)

Interesting. I've never been to the London one though, just the Liverpool one.

My friend might come over from canada for it. really hoping she does as i can get some new work done as well.

Nothing wrong with the whole convention idea, it's a good thing and I've ben to a few of them I just don't like the idea of getting inked there. I guess it might be that there isn't enough time for me to get a piece done there as I don't tend towards the smaller pieces

If you have a tattoo artist who is attending there, and you're beginning or finishing a big piece, then they should be able to fit you in if you have a free slot.

My girlfriend is hoping Valerie Vargas will be able to squeeze her in at the convention instead of having to weight 7 months for an oppointment at Frith St.

Ive been waiting like 4-5months now for Vargas, should be able to hear from her this fall. I couldnt get tattooed front of everyone, was uncomfortable enough when my old tattooist moved studio and merged all rooms into one.

Its like that for almost all the artists at Frith St. at the moment.
My friend Naomi is basically running the shop n was talking to me about it the other day.
My girlfriend is on the waiting list for Stewart Robson, who has done my chest so far, and consultation will be towards the end of the year, and ink appointment not till around Feb time.
My chest so far:
the roses were my first ever tattoo, nearly 3.5hrs. and the diamond hurt like fuck! haha.
waiting on ideas and money to get the other side finished. thinking around more flowers and some birds sittin on/in them or flying out of them.some real nice work in this thread though
