  • I've got a 1940s Whittaker and Mapplebeck/Pennine (or at least I think it's that old - I took it into the shop when I got it and that's what the guy there dated it as) for my current project. It's in a rough state, and has been overpainted with brushed blue gloss at some point, but I just uncovered this rather cute handpainted little forest scene. Bike archaeology! It's a shame it'll go when I get it resprayed.

    Seller: no i just lost a few friends and found that people started shouting random abuse at me in the street, so yeh.......

  • how about an nice thick superglossy clearcoat?

  • Unfortunately the crack in the seat-tube means that i have to have it blasted. Mainly so that the person who's fixing it can see what he's doing.
    Also, blasting it means that i can properly check for other discrepancies in the frame.

    Another reason for the blasting is, there are a fair few rust spots on the frame which are quite bad. It will be good to see how the frame looks once back to bare metal.

    I was thinking about either trying to source some decals (as i love the originals), or getting someone to replicate them. This is still something i might do, but i'll probably blast it, get it fixed, and then clear coat it...

  • this is my first project it is a £20 BIN on the bay of E'ness had a grand day out to Hull to collect it

    I would kind of liked to have left it o/g but there was quite a bit of rust bubbling up from lots of places that didnt show up on pics

    this was where i thought id uncovered the frame number and after 2 hours of research realised it was a post code...Doh!

    and finally

    just rubbed down the forks and primed them for now, done them with white primer cos unsure of final colour, thinking dark or racing green any opinoins/suggestions?

    Yeah, that's what I'm planning. The bars and stem (Phillipe), the brakes (GB), and the saddle (Lycett Swallow) are all good. I'm replacing the headset, wheels, seatpost and will probably replace the crankset. It's a shame about the paintjob. It was originally red with lugs lined in sky blue, a blue band on the down tube, and little fir trees on either side. I'm not sure why anyone thought it was a good idea to get the blue gloss out.

    the mudguad is metal isn't it? powdercoat that and you get a great looking bike.

    just had a quick look this opening line for the powder coating treatment suggests they are going to be expensive, justiflying their cost

    first full build myself, pretty happy with it. the broken langster is there too
