  • I think API resprays in Essex do it , otherwise its Argos or Mercian.

    Chrome, that is.

  • Cheers Peter.

Think I might be calling Argos this time.

  • My flat enamel job done by Colourtech is really a bit too delicate, loads of scrapes and flakes already.

because modern paint is not as durable as the old stuff, COSHH regulations put paid to all that. Chas Roberts told me that

  • Are you being serious Rob?

  • Are you doubting Rob? Tsk, tsk.

  • a quick skim of the thread shows that one thing hasn't been completely explicitly said. wet coats look much much much nicer than powder coats, but are very very very prone to chipping, scraping, and damage. It's just the way it is. I looked into him a bit and it seems he give you the choice. all the other aspects of this thread are what they are.

personally i opt for wet coats and just go for a respray one every year or so. I just think power coats look like cheap shit on a clean steel frame.

  • Would love to know how that paint stands up to knocks and installing bolts and cups etc.

need to be a bit careful yes, but I think it's worth it

  • I was recommended Mario as someone to put a new steerer on a fork for me and then match a flat colour from the frame - is this a bad idea? Has anyone had any experience with frame/fork repairs?

  • Turned around in 5 days, lug lining, headset installation, new decals, top bloke. £90

    more photos in current projects

I'm only slightly pissed off because it makes my other bike look dull.

Thats really nice lug lining. It's also the same lug set that Carlton used - the Capella

  • Are you being serious Rob?

    yep, that's what he said.

mind you, I've ridden my CR only twice since it was repainted, so it should have had plenty of time to harden before winter training starts!

  • Mario did this for me about 6 months ago.
Used it every day for commuting in London.
Has held up pretty well, although there are a few small chips here and there where I've chained it up:

  • Does Mario take off cable guides and change road to track ends?

  • Does Mario take off cable guides and change road to track ends?

    I think he does.
    Best to phone him though.

  • Does Mario take off cable guides and change road to track ends?

His brother does, look further up the thread... His brother works at Chas Roberts, or used to anyway...

  • if i can cheaply get a re-spray/track ends/Etc from one place i'd defo consider it. Fallen for my road frame.

    Anyone got his number TA.

  • Thanks.

  • yea, I've just had one done. I have to admit that it really isn;t the best of jobs. the paint has got a good luster, but there are numerous spots where it's rather thin. It was cheep though, £110 (I got perl finish, lug lining, transfers and a repair done).

    we'll see about the robustness

  • I've had a tonne of frames sprayed up by mario over the last few years and TBH, the chipping is a bit of an issue. Some bikes have held up better than others and the metallics seem to be the toughest, and also look great by the way.

His bro, Winston, still works at Roberts and is the only person there who can do fillet brazing, so he's good.

what! £110 is cheap ? that's expensive man!

  • what! £110 is cheap ? that's expensive man!

Lol, go to mercian or argos then.

  • Dylan, £110 is bloody cheap for pearl finish, lug lining, transfers and a repair

  • My Ron Cooper came back recently and is excellent. Had cable bosses, tracking, s put and a spray job.

Sadly framed was scratched by me and so he is gonna give me a freebie of touch up paint.

Very nice guy with a workshop full of Colnago, Quinn, you name it which is worth a visit (call him first). Hither Green Station one minute.

  • tracking, *s put * and a spray job.

sorry meant to say cable bosses (where's the edit button?)
