  • I think it's a very lovely build mate, it's not often we see people building up old bike like that.

as for tyres, check the Panaracer Pasela one, a better combination of having gumwall tyres with puncture resistance (touring tyres usually are).

  • thanks very much. i will keep an eye out for those tyres cheers.

  • Its looking good. Interesting that you went to low flange hubs.

  • it is just what i had around. My bro had the rims laced to the hubs so I got them off him as i did just want to ride the bike. i still have the hubs that came with the bike when i found it, at home. nice drilled out ones but this was just easier/probably more reliable and to be honest looks good. though i feel if i got a non quick release skewer for the front it may be a better idea.

  • Just bought this off the bay and I want to get it to Armourtex to get it powder coated, torn on a colour though??? Thinking Orange with, metal/glitter disco ball shit in the laquer, dya reckon that would be a good look, or simply look shite?

  • [quote=Greasy Slag;870388]Coaster brake. nice. that elephant white is very nice - what did it cost you?

Hi, cost of Scatini - all 6000CZK (200EUR), but color with preparation for BB set ad seatpost cost 1500CZK (50EUR)

  • thanks chaps, i just loved the colours to be honest, proper sweet, right then i will take your advice and give this a mini cab style big time swerve,
where do i go from here,
i need a frame, for a 5'8 chap, short inside leg project ?

If you're in London pop into Cavendish, they will have plenty of frames to give you ideas.

That's great just the way it is.

  • +1

  • Hugo7 - That is on the money mate, cheers!

  • Unless the paint is screwed, why respray? It looks great just as it is, lovely panels.

  • Here are some mroe pics, to show it needs a bit of attention!

Anyone near Armourtex that could remove the headset and BB for a few GNs, just phoned my LBS and 3 week wait, WTF!

  • Don't respray :-(

  • definately don't do '1 colour chique' armourtex... it's such a shame

  • So far peeps reckon leave it ratty then?

  • It's your bike mate, do what you want to it.

  • Either that or send it back to Mercian for a proper job.

  • No andy we will have a say. OK!

  • I don't understand why people get all funny about this then go and stick risers or an aerospoke or deep vs on a bike. Weird.

If it was rare then they might have a point, but Mercians are very common. Powder coat it and ride it.

    Absolutely.

  • I am tempted to get it powder coated as it will just rust more and I am moving to Newquay in October and dont want it disintergrate as soon as I get there. Once it is built I also cant be arsed taking it apart again, plus I got it cheap as chips.. So looks like Armourtex it is and an aerospoke rear and HED front with pink risers and green tyres ;-)

  • ...and a fluro yellow chain

  • ....and orange grips

  • ...most important thing though is to get a totally pointless MKS chaintug
