Well, even more reason to be kind to the knees (I'm nearly there myself, but also on the verge of surgery).
Mary rides a Surly ( I do too), and I love it. You can get them super small. In any case, you are comfortable on your bike, so it's perfect. I rode a few bikes that were a bit big for me before finding an otp frame size that suited me.
