you take a wrong turning? ;)
nice one des. you never regret the TNRC -
• #2353
What for? Golf? Surfing? Cycling? Jolly boys outing?
Head for Broadstairs. From there you can't go wrong, as to the south you have Joss Bay and Ramsgate, and to the north you have Cliftonville and good old Mar Git.
We're talking every place mentioned is within an 8 mile section of coastline here.
-
• #2354
how is botany bay? and for that matter margate?
-
• #2355
Botany Bay is next door to Joss Bay, just up from Broadstairs.
Mar Git is more your traditional British Summer Holiday venue. To be honest, they're all a bit run down and need serious £$€ thrown at them, but you can't beat them for nostalgia reasons.
For surfing, go to Joss Bay :0)

joss bay is nice.
Sam are you a man of kent or a kentish man? -

GROUNDRULES:
Riders' bikes must be in good working order.
Riders must have adequate lighting (normal LEDs don't really cut the mustard) to illuminate road irregularities with plenty of time for safe evasive manoeuvres, and to get home on their own if necessary.*
Riders should have spare batteries / lighting in case of emergency. It is also wise to carry the usual puncture repair/ tubes etc.
Riders should familiarise themselves with the advertised route.
Riders should be aware of aggravating train commuters, and be ready to ease the situation with diplomacy / compromise.
Riders should be aware of cars behind and in front. Fall into single file as soon as safely possible. Common advice is NOT to wave traffic through for legal reasons. Better to single up and let the driver decide when to pass.
Riders should have a charged mobile phone and a few other riders numbers.

Right, suitable bunch up points for tomorrow are as follows, plus I'll detail a bit of the route at the same time.
Star Hill comes after just a couple of miles, I will keep the pace on the front steady enough to ensure we hit the bottom in one unit.
When you climb Star Hill, the worst section is near the top when the road bends to the right. Once over the top, carry on for another 400yds, the road bends to the left and shortly on the left by a left hand turn is a pub called The Harrow. We'll regroup there.
The descent of Sundridge Hill is narrow and has gravel sections. Care required/advised.
The climb up to Ide Hill isn't exactly steep, but does go on for a couple of miles with a brief respite in the middle. We will regroup at the top in Ide Hill village.
Next up is the descent of Ide Hill Road, it's open and fast. At the very bottom of the descent the road bears right while we take the straight ahead left turn. As the gearies will outpace the fixies (I hit 47mph last week and intend to bust the 50mph mark tomorrow) we will stop to regroup just before the turn on the left.
The next few miles are draggy, splits may well occur. If this happens, just follow the road and we will stop at the T-junction at the bottom of Bayleys Hill. The climb itself is a nice one, starts in the open before heading up into the trees. There's a T-junction at the top, we will regroup here.
After we cross a main road, head down the back of Knowle Park, then cross a X-roads, the road gets a bit up and down for a couple of miles. There are also two tight left hand bends, the second one being the tighter of the two. Be careful! If the group splits just follow the road til the end where we can regroup again outside a restaurant called The Snail.
From here on in, it will be fairly simple to keep together in a bunch. Well, in theory anyway!
That's enough pratting on from me. See you tomorrow!

Aha, I know there is a 'beautiful' chart above...but, in words, how honest are those hills?
-
• #2375
I don't think any of them are particularly steep, but they are quite long for the south east. Have you done the Surrey Hills ride? I think this one tonight has hills that are comparable to that.

I'm in, but being only about 3 hours back from an intended easy 55m night ride which somehow mutated into 160+ miles on fixed I suspect I'll regret this come Tuesday.
