Yeah I was the only carrying two wheels on my back, the weather is gorgeous today!

let put it this way.
the dutchs have town bike with coaster-only brake for decades, it's still there and still function, they're plenty reliable enough to even use it as your only form of slowing down.
also the velosteer one is the best one in the market, very reliable and not expensive at all, only £20 including cog.
Aaaaah, I've been expecting you, Mr Scoble.
Have you seen the Dutch ride? I walk faster. Like I said - alright for pootling around.

Yeah, did work out it was you, the wheel set strapped to your back were a good giveaway.
I'll say hi next time!

In other news: the Murthouse looks amazing! I usually hate Spoks but I've taken a shine to this one. Looks good!

Makes a change seeing one on the rear too

Murtle, it looks like someone rammed a spok up your bikes arse.
Agreed

a singlespeed coaster brake is a fantastic way of having a relaxing ride, I'm building up my old bike as one.
Yes guys, I am understand. I like pure fixed gear bikes design, I like movies at vimeo.com (search "charge bikes"), i like frames wit reverse drop outs, But:
1) I have not experiences with fixed gear, to this days I only biking at roadbike (bianchi columbus slx) and mtb (schwinn ht moab comp)
2) I built my ss bike for sometime travelling to office - 15km, 5min road downhill, and 40min around Vltava river thruu city parks, bridges, old town (roubaix!). Afternoon many pedestrians.
3) coaster brakes we good knows, everybody in Czech at 70ies starting biking at this system in kid years...
4) downhill is very comfortable with freewheeling wit coaster, braking is so specific; 1.pressure very very soft braking, 2nd presure good braking, 3rd pressure DRIFT :o))) but 2hours with coaster riding teach it...
5) i like speedskating, and with ss bike with coaster brake and 12atm tubes I have so same feeling... You must have intuition for right starting of braking, because braking at only rear is 30% effectivity (70% front brake, but it i have not :o)))))
6) And definitely I can not bike with cables...
Resume - coaster brake is ideal for me, but I understand, that another bikers dislike it.
Zdenek
P.S. and Velosteel coaster brake price in Czech Rep. is 340CZK (about 20USD)

Still need spokes, hubs, crank arms, and brakes. But well on its way :)
White saddle....you hipster :)
Looking good Mr. SF, need to get my act together on my build. Stalled a bit due to the Missus refocusing my priorities.

Cheers, figured I'd copy you and go white rims as well. In fact the thing might end up looking a bit too cool. I may need to pay someone less over-the-hill to ride it for me :)

White rims now off the shopping list. Have gone for this on the back.

Just dropped it off at Cavendish for their expert wheel building services.
And for the front, it just got delivered today, still in box so no picks but I went a bit crazy....it starts with Hed and ends with 3 :)

Just for that I'm gonna put Conti tyres on it!

I don't mind. It's you that will explode in a shower of meat and inferior conti rubber.
I'll take your HEDJOB3 then, if it isn't damaged. -

Sounds like your going all hipster on the front end. That half will need a bright powder coat with matching Ourys on risers.
Why not go classic on the rear, and have the rearend chromed (possibly add some fake lugs) and run a tub on NOS low profile rims laced to a sheriff star or somthing. All complemented with a nice Brooks.
It'll be the ultimate fixie skidder bike :)

Can anyone suggest a 27.2 chrome straight seatpost that isn't a Nitto or a Thomson? I've looked everywhere and the selection is surprising slim...

Kalloy do cheap and cheerful silver seatposts. Although if you look around you should be able to find a old campag or shimano post.
I've got one of these, picked it up very used and rough looking, added elbow greese and polish, tis luverly now.

Yep that was me - very conservative sunday RLJ'ing... good spot as it is an Alien frame, rides very nicely too.
