I always ran 34x16 on my 26er, 34x18 on my 29er, and 32x20 on my Pugsley...and i lived in Scotland and rode the 7 Stanes red routes on those gears...a lot of people seem to run gears smaller than necessary on single speed mtb's in my opinion.
