The outer diameter of the spindle is 30mm, yet the BB is compatible with standard BB shells (ie dosent need BB30). The crank arm connects via the weird shaped spindle end, which should give greater contact surface. Should be a stiff+light+cheap(ish) set-up if the theory runs true. All I know is the bike geek in me is smitten.
