  • I definitely want a new seat, hate my genesis seat.

And I am probably gonna run either 48:17 or 48:16.

  • Does anyone run their flyer fixed as I want to buy one and am put off by the chain line issues. Has this been remidied on the newer bikes, if not do the EAI sprockets solve the problem without spacers.

I got mine working today, i used a Surly cog, make sure you get the right size though, i had 3/32 as stardard but i've got a 1/8 now and it works fine.

  • Yep, run mine fixed. 3/32 chainring and Dura-Ace sprocket and lockring. 2mm spacer on the back leaves enough thread for the lockring and gives me a pretty much bang on chainline - no problems after 12 months. Go with a sprocket with a slightly wider shoulder if you dont want to faff with a spacer. Like Harvey said the Surly one is quite wide and remedies the chailine.

  • I ride mine fixed, and with an EAI sprocket. AFAIK the chain line issue was fixed a while back. Certinaly hasn't been an issue on either my 2007 or 2009 flyers.

  • i ride a flyer with 48:16 freewheel and fixed both. runs great altho my crank clunks a bit. i replaced the handlebars with some risers. my main beef is the decals. i see probably two or three other flyers every day. anyone got any ideas other than stickers or a respray?

  • tipex

  • I'm thinking about a respray for mine as well.

I've gone back to a freewheel cassette, i can't get the hang of fixed and it's quite impractical for the type of riding i do.

  • 2010 Flyer:

  • Urgh! I thought the green one was bad!

  • apart from the white chain i think that's a big improvement.

  • Yuck. Some of the bits look better but they've killed it with the colour scheme, again. Lighter frame welcome, as one less set of bosses, but lugged steel skinny fork on a non-lugged non-skinny bike looks daft.

Formula hubs good! Not sure about the DA-28 rims but wheels look better overall.

    Hmm, chrome cable clips.

White chains are silly and I think they've got the master link the wrong way round.

  • looks cheap.

  • I think these changes are being 'driven by the market'. I.e. they think they'll sell more if it looks like a unipack.

What they should have done is:
    -kept the carbon fork
-not changed the top tube cable routing - there was nothing wrong with it in the first place
-done this year's wheels and the lighter frame minus a bottle boss
-kept the old logos and got a better colour scheme

Spot on apart from that though ;)

  • they think they'll sell more if it looks like a unipack.

have they really sold THAT many unipacks?!

  • God knows - it would be interesting to know though. When you think about all the places selling them the only person who really knows is the factory owner(s).

It would be cool if we could track them down and find out - anyone in the trade fancy a challenge?!

  • It's all good for me anyway, I'm selling my Flyer (white, 08) soon. This cack new bike ain't gonna hurt :)

  • 08 white flyer is a good bike.

  • Sho' nuff. I do prefer them white.

  • tea leaf that stole mine obviously liked my white '07
    guy did me a favour...'09 & '10 are baba and £100 more...boo

  • Who the fuck designed the decals on that frame? What a disgrace! That design makes the bike look like a cheap piece of shit (excuse my language but I can't believe how piss-poor that so-called bit of design is). What the fuck! I've seen shit decals but that takes not just the biscuit but the whole damn pack...

I think that I may have slightly gone overboard in my criticism of the new decals on the flyer - it just looks very poor considering the price or the bike. Then again my flyer frame is resprayed so that's an option for anyone that gets on. It's just frustrating that such a good bike can look so sub-standard.

  • Just had my first week on a genesis flyer 09 - yes, that would be the rather questionable 'greenish' one. Had to choose the bike as it was by far the best ride on offer for me, and fitted me best, and I believe they are quite important factors when buying a bike?

So yes, I'll be changing a fair bit on mine too, starting with a sacred burning of the trashy saddle and a removal of the 17000 stickers attached to the bike.

Question - I'm thinking about a respray at armourtex but what can be done with the carbon forks? Am I stuck with the colour etc...?

  • This is my Genisis Flyer so far:
