  • I've just got a Formula rear to build up a spare wheel. I've had a pair of Primatos for 2 years that haven't faltered.

I'm going to build the next set low flange to see if I can feel the difference. But I have low flange factory built wheels on my mtb and touring bike. The latter I must have ridden for 4000 miles and all is well. (Ridida Novas on Shimano Parralax incase you're wondering.)

My question is: Really can Phils be 4x as good as Formula or 2x as good as Goldtec? Surely they ride as good to start with as each other? Is it to do with longevity? Does the machining lead to some miraculous quality of ride?

I'm guessing longevity must be the key.
