@ lil - don't listen to me! If anyone wants anything go for it.
I do agree really - I'm generally pretty ethical - cycling everywhere, buying fairtrade, get my fruit and veg and quite a bit of food from local shops/markets, recycle just about everything. And in the last few months I have dropped a lot of money on bits for my new bike and accessories in independent bike shops, with small internet shops, with one man operations specialising in unusual bits, a self employed Pole who makes bits for export etc. All of this means I have virtually nothing left to spend on bike stuff, so £26 in Lidl is a tiny amount by comparison... So I can sleep at night!
I agree that it doesn't seem like doing much. But Lidl is a terrible company (just like most other large companies) with appalling business ethics, and even if I can't do much, I like whatever Lidl I can do. Pun intended, natch. My LBS employs more people under better conditions, trains and supports them better, gets some of its small profit back out into the local community, and I like them better. I wouldn't buy from Lidl if I could at all help it.

Has anyone ever brought their toolkit stuff? It's going for 4.99
-
• #129
cheap toolkits, imo i would be skeptical as most cheap stuff breaks (snapped 5 allen keys - yes i know im tightening stuff too much - its known as a bodge) but hey, £5 its not much, even to me. . . go for it and do a mini review - i.e does it all break xD il go have a look in my lidl and see if they have anything. . .

There's a few cycle stuff at the Blackbird Cross one in NW London.

Anything that can round off (e.g. screwdrivers) probably will.
I was going to ask where Blackbird Cross was, but I just Google mapped it instead. Do you live in Brent? I used to live in Harlesden, for my sins.

My track pump's fine, it pumps tyres up as hard as I want them to be. What more do you want? Am I missing something?
you're obviously not using it correctly

What's with the sad face? If you don't like it other areas do exist...
Nothing wrong with Harlesden. Except the drugs. And the murders. And the other stuff. I miss it tbh, it's too safe and boring where I live now. I have to watch the wire instead.

Been born and bred here, my parents live here, and I'm back here living with them temporarily. Am looking to move to different areas though.
Harlesden, well I never feel safe there, even if I know a few places where we have family friends hanging out.

Oh yes, I forgot, there was like, two bike wall racks there as well for a silly price, might get them and put it up in my room.

My mate bought the shoes a couple of weeks ago, 16quid or something, one of the plates didnt have any thread in so coulnt even hold the cleats, my other friend managed to make his shoes take him all the way to toulouse (800 miles) but died after that, sounds a bit likem buy cheap buy twice...

just a quick heads up, Lidl's in Cricklewood have these SPD shoes in for £9.99, reduced from £20
Even at £20, they're a steal. They look well made, not too stiff, great casual shoes. Unfortunately they didn't have my size (46), but they have a few 43/44's I think.

I popped into LIDLs to pick up some essentials (I'm really sorry Oliver, but I am a truly evil person, don't let the helpful lists fool you)....and while there, saw some cycle shades on sale. I bought one. I had to, because though I think anyone and everyone looks an arse in shades, its the hayfever season, and pollen plays merry hell with my eyes; especially the little bits that fall off trees also, and float around, waiting for me to go past then follow me, and assault my eyes just for the fun of it. Trees, they should all be chopped down, and all grass and plants be burned. We could feed cows on homeless people, .....or smokers.
Anyway, here's what I bought. No-one else should buy them though, because it might offend Oliver, and could lead to cows taking up smoking. And that would be bad. I think they were about £12, or something like that. They come with four separate pairs of different lenses, and a flexible strap to replace the arms, should one wish that alternative restraining arrangement.

Wilkinson......what's that?
A part of LIDLs?
This is a thread about LIDLs stuff. Sorry if I missed something.

NOTE - only relevant to the uncool amongst us.
Marginally OT but Wilkinson do black universal brake cables with outers for about £1.04 front and £1.16 rear.
That's prety cheap. I've never seen one of thse Wilkinsons that so many seem to talk of. Theyb dont have them in brighton and i have never seen one in manchester

Has anyone found the shoes poor quality or the shorts uncomfortable?

The road shoes are pretty poo. The ring that holds the velco strap turns easily making them loosen suddenly. The shape is too shallow, and the last too narrow. The plastic doesnt breath either.
Still, I did a couple of 60km rides in them without crying, so they arent unusable.
GA2G Those shades look pretty warm. I reckon they'd make a great winter pair, with the foam blocking icey winds though.

Wilko's is more of a northern thing. Damm shame as its a handy shop. There's on in deepest East London and one in Kingston though.
I have a stock pile of the brake cables. Bargain.
BTW Poundshop in Wandsworth is doing innertubes (sadly no road, just MTB and BMX).

Yes, there's a Wilkinson in Stratford. Very classy.

Fair play, ignore the nay sayers, technically GA2G posted the right thread, but if you'd started a thread about 'mostly oop north' Wilkies you would have been shot down in flames with '£1' requests all over the shop. Your logic seems fine to me.

Just for the record, my £4.99 Lidl tarck pump is still going strong. Pumps happily to 120psi (not tried higher) and the pressure gauge works fine actually.
