  • ...which is me

  • Yay!

  • For Balki...

    FFS...

Sorry atomcf, I was being a dick. My apologies.

Theres some sound advice on this thread, none of it mine.

  • man don't cheer yet... get photos first!

just tell them you love cycling and sign up to some big rides. show a willing, they can't not support you, then explain your bike was cheap, if they want you to be safe they best buy a nice geared bike with brakes....

  • Shhhhh Balki don't blow it, I will also check those pictures out.... second opinion.

  • Seriously mate... your easiest solution is to bung on a couple of brakes.

  • Take up a Class-A drug of your choosing, drop out of school, hang around the house watching TV and masturbating.

You say that like it's a bad thing...

  • ...

  • dont worry

parents are meant to care for you

after my disaster at La Marmotte this year I phoned my dad (I had turned 35 2 days earlier). told him what had happened and his immediate response was "i think this cycling is a little dangerous and you should stop". i quickly ended the call

for a few minutes i was rendered speechless with rage and frustration, but then remembered that one of the reasons i love my dad is he will say things that i don't want to hear but he says them actually because he cares

explain to your mum that you appreciate her concerns and the motivation for them but that you will take all the relevant precautions (and training etc) and intend to be as safe as possible.

as someone who spent years battling with my father on a variety of issues all i can say is it took me growing up and understanding the motivation behind what my old dears would say to me. you then have the right to take or leave their advice (though I appreciate this can be a little more difficult when you live at home)

i am now bored of writing a vaguely sensible response and must return to normal service of abusing friends on here and swearing at drivers

  • I have a poll now which i can use against them(she decided that fixies where dangerous because she read it somewhere on the internet): http://www.londonfgss.com/thread26080.html

@ dancing james: i know it's cos they care but I WANT TO RIDE FIXED!

  • All your problems would be solved if you simply killed them in the face

    I want, doesn't get.

  • Im not sure I'd recommend referring your mum to this site. It is laden with swear words and other unsavoury content.

  • Why the fuck you need a polls?? You got plenty of good advice and solution mate, use them, I highly doubt your mum would let you ride a fixie wixie because a website full of brakeless hipster says it's awesomely safe.

  • Im not sure I'd recommend referring your mum to this site. It is laden with swear words and [st]other unsavoury content[/st] Hippy.

    .

  • This thread is useless without a picture of your mum.

  • Grounded, no ocket money.

    Who's paying for the bike?

  • And by the way, If you see your mom this weekend, will you be sure and tell her . . .

YouTube - Butthole Surfers : Sweat Loaf

Listen to this. Then kill your dad, and wear his skin whilst riding the offending bike, demonstrating to your mother that it's fine. OPTIONAL Then have sex with your mother. Then take off your dad's skin, and wait for her to say it's fine to ride your bike cos your dad said so.

  • -Like the idea of getting a quote for a road bike... bbbuuuuuttttt I've already got a mountain bike(2003 Specialized SX), a BMX(DK Cleveland) and a beater road(fake Falcon I think) bike, as a result of giving up about 2 years worth of pocket money paying my parents back(I paid the Specialized off this Christmas)...

Be grateful, you uncouth child, your parents have bought you 3 bikes, the last bike my parents bought me was when I was like 8 or 9 I think.

  • Agreed. HTFU.

When I was about 5 years old, my mum put pigtails in my hair and dressed me in a dress.

She got the video camera out and made me say things like "Hello mummy, my names Antoinette"

    Bint.

  • Ok, I've been building a fixie and it's finally finished and at the shop waiting for the unbelievable labour cost to be paidfor it being put together, and i get home from school and my mum says to me, "Alex, you can't ride you new bike, it's too dangerous." And I'm thinking to my self: WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON?!?!?!?
So after a bit of arguing she says she thinks its to dangerous, and we'll have a talk this evening when my dad gets back.
I'm 15, its got a front brake on it and I'm running on 41tx18t.
I need help persuading them to let me ride.
    Any one got any advice?

My daughters are a little older than you (17 and 18). If they were riding 41x18 I would tell them to HTFU.

  • @cliveo: I've got 41tx18t because I've been moved to the stupid hilly coast, and i want to get up the hills, and when I have legs the size of tree trunks I'll get a bigger ratio.

@CrazyJames&Balki: I paid for the bikes with my own money, so technically they haven't bought me any bikes.

  • Did they dress you like a girl??? Did they make you play with fucking dolls?!?

  • @Balki: i see your point :)

@andy.w: i'm paying for it, i worked in my holidays so i could afford it, i now have no money.

  • i'm paying for it

    So am I, atomcf....

    So am I.
