OK. I got closer with the last search. I like the Kiwi and I am feeling deep urges for the Masi bikes. But still torn on whether to build/assemble from frame (this will be my third, I've built two MTBs so far, so it can't be harder right?) or go OTP...

My big problem is not knowing the frame manufacturing habits. I'm a big fella, 6'3" and 190lbs (think Clydesdale), I'll be commuting with a courier bag and portfolio or cameras, so I need something sturdy, so it might be something burly like a Charge. I'd hate to buy something beautiful only to feel it fold underneath me.

I think it should be okay if you use normal components and wheels with 36 spokes not 32. Building bikes is fun and if you done an MTB you definitely can do a FG. It's the simples bike technology there is.

So I just got my new bike-

Going to change a few things (get rid of that camo tape for a start) and perhaps convert it to a single speed? Though not sure yet if I should get another bike [still dreaming of Peugeots] to convert....

You pretty much just described me as well mate, i'd recommend you leave the flimsy stuff and look at the likes of:

A Charge Plug
A Surly Steamroller
A Volume Cutter

Or anything similarly tough and chunky :)

@ wild goose. -Eggpie had a really cool old school chunky frame when I lived with him a few years ago. the name of it escapes me but he's got a knack at remebering all the bikes he's owned. It might be interesting to ask him about it. I do recall him saying it would have easly worked for a gent about your size.

I've seen a paddy wagon at 56cm which I fear is a tad small for me (even being used to MTBs) but looks sturdy and £350 pretty cheap. But that frame size is 4cm under their biggest size and that worries me...

Still looking for a Plug though; Mania had a blue one my size but he's not responded to my post yet, so I don't know if he's sold it or not. My LBS had a great 07 Plug in the widow that he let go for £430 a few months ago. I hate that I let it slip.

I've heard the Charge are releasing fresh colours for 10 in August. Anyone know about this?

Hi All

Been looking at getting a fixed-gear/single speed bike for a while.

We've got a cycle scheme at work so I'm doing a bit research before I take the plunge.

Can't get a new bike till December though as I bought a new MTB through the scheme last December :(

Any advice greatly received.
