  • Congratulations, you are today's FAIL.

  • Also, rim tape shits me because when it shifts and only partially covers the spoke holes, and then degrades, it becomes misshapen and is hard to readjust.

Only if you use shit tape*.

*this is not a tynan industries product

  • Well... thats the bloody point, isnt it?

Presumably better tape = more money
Electrical tape = fuck all money

NEVER have I thought, "Jesus, I'd smoke this chap on the hybrid if I had proper rim tape"

  • Veloplugs literally ftw :)

  • Im really only arguing for the sake of it, but I cannot see any discernable advantage to a veloplug. Must be heavier and a pain in the arse to put in. Seems like a solution to a problem that never existed.

  • It's not heavier. It's lighter. That's the point - less weight at the extremities of your wheels = faster wheels.

It's also potentially easier to fit certain tyres since there's less room taken up by rim tape. That's their statement anyway.

Veloplug - the best idea since the invention of clincher rims,
made available by Velocity, the rim makers from Australia.
Rim tape usually weigh about 20 grams.
32 Veloplugs weigh only 5 grams.
Fewer spokes - then the savings are greater.
Tyre mounting is easier with the Veloplugs.
Incredible blow strength. Tyre start to fail long before the Veloplug.
Veloplugs can be used over and over.
Veloplugs (red) fit in 8 mm holes.
NEW COLOR, NEW DESIGN. THE VELOPLUGS TURN YELLOW

    Available now: Yellow Veloplugs
As it turns out that many pre-built wheels have spoke holes larger than 8.0 mm
so the solution was to completely redesign the Veloplugs. The brand new YELLOW Veloplugs
fit many more rims and wheels. Holes from 8.5 to 9.3 mm are being covered
without using additional tape or glue.

    MULTIPLE DIAMETER FIT

The weight? Well, larger holes require larger Veloplugs... they carry a 1 g penalty per 64 pcs.

    You sure?*

  • go and have a cup of coffee, boofhead, you grumpy cunt.

    :)

  • I contend that the additional centrifugal forces exerted as a result of weightier rims actually increase momentum making cyclists faster. It is physics.

    @ma3k... point taken.

    haaaaaaaaaa

    maybe when subjected to gravity

You can contend that if you like..

    I'm in a great mood.

    Cunt.

    No, really, I am.

  • which size velo plug for an open pro, am assuming red...

  • i have gone through 4 inner tubes now on my new H+sons rims and still have no tire on the bloody thing.
after the first blow out i took extra special care in making sure there was no pinches. but again, BANG. it looks like they are going on the spoke holes. so im gonna try some rim tape. how ever i never had to do this on my velocity deep Vs.

Has anyone else had these problems?

im fitting Vittoria zaffino tires and using specialized 700c 20/28 long valve inner tubes.

    rim tape and then hope!

Seriously, get some tape, or at least wrap the insides of the rim a few times with the insulated tape of your choice. I also assume you're checking the inside of the tire walls for glass and thorns?

    Velox tape.

  • i'm glad we've got you on board, federal.

    :)

  • I got a new wheel recently, and in my excitement to get out and ride it I forgot to put rim tape on. Only remembered after I'd stuck the wheel back on the bike, thought "Ah fuck it". Not had any problems in 2 weeks.

  • .. as your inner tube slowly rubs on metal.. getting thinner.. and thinner...

  • Yeah I know. I think Fate just knocked at my door.

  • Bet you you flat half way home tonight..

  • Velox tape.

cheers for that Hippy, I was about to buy the veloplugs

  • Bet you you flat half way home tonight..

I'm not even leaving the house today. Winner is me.

EH? you knew there was a problem, what it was AND what the solution was and yet you still persevered with three more tubes?

where did you get the tubes? were they lying around or did you have to make a trip especially to the bike shop? (you can see where I'm going with this....)

it'll be fine until you're late for a date with the cutest girl you ever met, and it's raining.
