  • My new project - just starting out. Be gentle.

Was looking for a well-used bit of 531 to build not-quite-a-beater-but-nothing-too-precious. Fell at the first hurdle.

It's a NOS 1979 Peugeot Compétition, the PKN10E model according to the internet. Thank you, internet. It's had a BB and headset in at some point but it's never had a pair of wheels attached. Just a couple of (inevitable) small paint chips on the bottom of the BB and rear dropouts.

Main triangle is 531. The PXN10E (Super Compétition) was all-531, this one has more ordinary stays and forks. Top of fork crown and bottom half of forks are chromed.

Plain Nervex lugs and cute decal.

It's like a very light lemon yellow pearlescent. It's a really nice colour, shit iPhone photos aren't doing it justice here (I'll take some decent ones when I get a chance).

So, yeah. I can't afford to deck it out in high-end parts (and it's hardly a high-end frame) so it will probably be Open Pros on Miche low-flange track hubs and stuff like seatpost and bars picked up on the cheap. Still thinking about the chainset.

My first thought was black saddle, tape and straps but the guy I bought it from mentioned that he was thinking about putting green wheels on it. Hmm, green, I thought. So green tyres and tape and maybe one of those green special edition BFF Concors when they become available. I have a black vintage Concor already for it in the meantime (or if I run out of cash). Incidentally, if anyone knows where to get green bar tape...? I UTFSed but didn't turn anything up yet.

Will post some pics when it's done.
