i'm 6 3 and the 61 only fits with considerable seat tube and rise on my stem. its measured 61 to the top of the seat tube, realistically it is a 58/59. i need a 62 c-c, so the sizing definitely comes up small. buy big.

Steer clear of the miche, track changing ones if you're riding street, they're usually fine but can come a bit loose due to the 2 separate parts.
Only if you're an idiot who doesn't know how to use a lockring tool.

Just completed the Manchester to Blackpool ride on my first fixed (Fuji Track), mostly off the peg components apart from a short stem, risers and a front brake.
Have to say, apart from a sore arse and hands (my fault for not wearing cycling shorts and gloves) it was pretty comfy and stood me in good stead.
Wondering whats the furthest anyone has ridden on a bike with track geo like this, Im interested in doing the Manchester 100, but not sure whether my Fuji will be the best ride.
On a side note, any other fixie riders from Manchester want to help a newb get fit, maybe some rides to Buxton and the like?

I'm pretty sure that there's a lots of people managed to do more than a Century on a track geometry bicycle.
-

You could make 100 miles on any bike that works. It just might hurt, that's all.
I regularly do 50+ on my Fuji. If it's set up comfy, it'll be fine.

pretty much, there's a lots to compensate the stiffness of the bike, such as low flange hub with shallow rims, moustache bar to absord the shock, a good choice of saddle, bigger tyres says, 25c, 28c etc. it's not much but it's a good start.
if you're riding with track drop, 23c tyres, track saddle, etc. then you'll be sorer enough to wish you commit a crime, went to prison and got buggered six way from Sunday.

Yeah the saddle isnt agreeing with me, or at least it wasn't when I was riding through Lytham and wanted to smash it to bits! Ill probably upgrade that, get some better foot retention (I find the pedals and straps a bit shite, and very tricky to get into when moving).
I wont ask whether I should enter the 100, I guess the answer will be 'yes, HTFU'!!!!
Sod it, ill enter it and see how it goes, i did hardly any training for the Blackpool ride but managed it, hell, there were a lot of riders on geared bikes pushing their bikes up the hills, Im strangely proud that I didnt get off (proud, but very sore I might add).

if you're doing 100 miles, try and get the bike to feel comfortable to the point that you'll feel you can easily do infinite miles without discomfort, you should able to finish a ride without a lots of discomfort and wasted energy.

has anyone with an 08 or 09 found the fork quite spongey? when I'm at the track it feels like I'm riding around with an inch of travel.

Yeah deffo mate, i'm a manc lad and I'd be up fer that... d'you know there's a\ manc subforum on here?
I recently got a fuji track as my beater/commuter ready for winter so I can be a bit kinder to the 'burgundy dream' and 'other bike' so you can check out my set up.
The pedals are appalling, 2nd thing I changed after the saddle (though i was changing so much anyway i did it all in one go)
i'll put a pic up at some point of the fuji...

Bought an '08 Fuji Track a couple of months ago, and after fitting a front brake, noticed that the headset has a little play in it. Not sure this can be resolved other than purchasing some better components... Could be the problem you're experiencing Wintergreen?
-
• #1491
the headset was loose when I picked up mine but it tightened up fine...
-
• #1492
My headset had some play after a crash at the velodrome, I just loosened the stem and the bolt on top and gave it a whack until it set itself right. I'm wondering if the spongey-ness is because of how thin the fork is where it enters the head tube
-
• #1493
Other than the play in the headset, I haven't experienced a 'spongey' sensation, but will pay a bit more attention next time I go out for a ride. Whilst we're on the subject of forks, has anyone on here put a chrome lugged fork on their Fuji Track?

...and go for a test ride. I find a bike can feel setup too big (too much seatpost/too long stem) until you've been riding for 2 hours. Then it feels right.

No 'spongey-ness' going on with mine.

Cool, I pm'ed you, be good to make some contacts with other fixed riders, and great to see what youve done with your track... Where is this Manc sub-forum you speak of? Is it mad-ferret?

look near the bottom of the main age and you'll see the sub forums - we're on there.
Anyhoo - here's my fuji, with a sticky vinyl job to cover up a lot of the frame - look alright but took a while t get wrinkle free. As long as it lets me keep my nice bikes clean and tidy and lets me not clean it every bight when it's salty on't roads I'll be happy. Once the hubs are suffering I'll put my sligtly better spare wheelset on...

Spec:
Truvativ hussefelt OS stem - 40mm
Bontrager OS bulls
Oury's
Cane Creek Crosstop lever
Shimano 105 brake
MKS AR2 pedals and cages. Shit cheap straps (knicked off the original pedals) -

I have the same stem, 10mm though, and I think its way to short for me, I need to spend a couple of hundred quid I reckon to get my Fuji specced out as I would like it, make it as comfortable as possible before riding 100 miles on it (I'm going to sign up for the Manchester 100, anyone else on here attempting it?)

Admittedly I don't ride at the track, but the fork on mine feels much like a decent steel fork. The stock wheels are a bit floppy and the headsets are very loose from the factory though.

There's shit loads of Manchester fixed riders, even lots who don't care about meeting other fixed riders, they just want to ride their bike.
There's a Manchester social group on here, and also check out "Ride It Sunday" on Facebook and I Bike MCR also on Facebook I think.
That looks really cool Rusty!
