Thats the one yes, just hold your nose when you pass the processed food factories of Park Royal and its a good ride!
Im not holding my nose when going past the biscuit one!
Probably a silly question, but is the route safe at nights? For when I come back from drinks etc? -
• #1953
Thanks for all the suggestions guys! I may well come along for drinks if I'm not too terrified haha.
Awww, most of those people don't bike (see what I did there :P) you'll be in safe hands... I think :P

Hi everybody, I'm new here. I am hoping to build a flip-flop free/fixed bike these summer holidays. I will probs post later, asking for advice on stuff.
Just out of interest, has anybody here build a flip-flop bike from scratch for under £200? I ask that because I am still at school and I don't have much to spend.

That's doable if you aren't in a rush. Buy an old road bike with horizontal drop outs off ebay (£50-100) an put a new rear wheel (£50-100) in. Bingo.
For the wheel you'll want to look into a Formula/Zenith/SJS Cycles hubs (all the same, just different lables) and a Mavic CXP22 or Rigida DP18.

I'd rather not be introducing myself on a hello thread but i'll have a go.Bought my first fixie the other day thanks to the help of my friend toby.Hes on this site somewhere but as of yet i haven't found him/attempted to look for him, picked up a nice bike from the forum that was quietly hidden away in the backstreets of oxford circus with no brakes.then thought it would be a smart idea to ride it to new cross.I'm not saying it was smart but it was entertaining none the less and i'm still in one piece.I'm a uni student in brighton and we're hoping to get a few polo games going there so if anyones around it would be great to get in touch and sort some out.

I hope you werent implying when talking about the bike being hidden away in the backstreets, meant you stole it or something :/
Anyway, welcome, there's a Brighton subsection here http://www.londonfgss.com/forum21.html

Hi all,
New to this place, I'm from a small part of Northern London called Yorkshire.... Ahem,
Either way, this seems to be a good place for info so I apologise for my geographically challenged nature....

Hello everyone. I'm also kinda new to all this. I joined the forum a while ago, but this is my first post.
I have been riding fixed since the beginning of the year, and I'm in love with it. Commuting every day on my Steamroller is a joy. Anyway, hopefully I'll get a chance to grab a drink and talk bikes with some of you. Cheers. -

Hey! I'm another newbie. I moved to London a month ago from Brighton and I am in dire need of a nice single speed. I'm pretty small (5'4/5'5) and I have a limited budget but if anyone wants to help me out, or would be into helping me build something that won't cost the earth to begin with I'd be incredibly grateful. This is me and my (i.e my housemates) cat:
Hey, I feel your pains of a tight budget. I'm not sure what route to go down for my next bike, and I'm not too sure of the benefits of a single speed. Hopefully shall get something sorted pretty soonish anyway, so fingers crossed.
And Lil, it seems eBay is crowded with Peugeots but they are all in Essex!

When you live in Kingsbury..? That seems an "unusual" place to purchase from. ;-)
BTW, as I never said a proper hello when I joined... Hello, I'm Tim. Live in Greenwich with Princess_Pashley, we ride sometimes but we have too much other crap going on to make it a serious hobby. It's a means of transport for us, which happens to be good exercise and great fun. So when it all starts to get too serious, we start to head for the pub. ;-)
Her ladyship has (as her name suggests) a Pashley Princess. It's not fixed, or single speed though, but I'm trying to work on her. I had an old Raleigh racer running single (but at stupidly high gear-inches) which died recently, so I bought a Charge Plug to replace it, which is chewing the streets up right now and in due course, I'll start building up a project-bike, to learn more about the mechanics of cycling.
You'll see me at beers when I can make it. All friendly faces welcome to come and chat.

1... How the HELL do you stop the f***G thing !!! ... you fixie guys are totally insane !!!!!
On the top at the front is the bent-around bit that waggles from side to side. That's attached to the front one of the round spinny things. Well on the bent-around bit, there's a sticky-out looking thing on the middle part of that. Two of them in fact, one on each side. And if you squeeze one or both of them together, then it makes the bike do a sort of slowy-down kind of thing. I'm not sure if that's what you're supposed to do, but it seems to be working for me at the moment.
;-)

New members compass beer rides on this week. Any newbies who'd like to ride out to East beers, or any other (Norths, Wests, South easts etc) for that matter post up your interest in the thread via link below:
http://www.londonfgss.com/post814740-864.html
http://www.londonfgss.com/thread15291-18.htmlAs stated on the other thread I can meet peeps tomorrow for a ride into Easts. If you can't make it to the centre of town that's fine, just head down to the pub. Usually gets goin about 8-8.30pm.
This is a great way to meet other forumengers and get actively involved in something on a regular basis instead of being behind a screen all the time.
We have a TT every week at Easts - 1.4km circuit, start/finish line outside pub. Great fun, run what yer brung. Participation at your own discretion.
