Apologies for the newb question - and if it's in the wrong place - but if the drive-side crank becomes loose on the spindle of a GXP crankset, is it completely kaput?
-
• #28
If you pedal while the crank is loose.. it will generally round the square taper edges or destroy the splines of ISIS/Octalink, etc. So, to answer, possibly.

Are you gonna count BMX cranks in your list? :)
Some people are running them. Doesn't db have Profile bmx cranks on his Geekhouse?

Thanks hippy - it's not been ridden much since I discovered the drive-side had some play in it, but my confusion was that there doesn't seem to be any way to tighten it regardless. The non-drive side is fine (and always has been) and I can't tighten that any more than it already is.
I'd always thought the spindles were meant to be integrated solid on drive-side ofthese GXPs, so I was a bit surprised when I took it out and found I could move it in the crank arm with my fingers.
I guess I'll just run it into the ground whilst I get a new one sorted...

Those Profile cranks are good but it's the chainrings that really do it. Always loved this one...

Spotted this whilst looking for Sugino 75's, if its up to date cheapest around

You legend... Just what i needed. At last, amongst all of these random threads about house/metal, "which hand do you wipe your arse with?" toss - i can find some parts for my bike.
I'm looking for the cheapest 75's and i think you may have helped. Ta -

I've used Total Cycling a couple of times and never had any problems with them. I'd use them again too. They do seem to do some good prices on track components.

Stronglight Impact £48.00
http://www.hubjub.co.uk/stronglight/stronglight.htm#xdAccording to Hubjub this product has been discontinued.

Thanks for that. Being amended now.

Hubjub Sugino 75 black price is out of date - they want £168 now, and they don't have 165mm. TFG do and are now cheaper at £165. Condor have both lengths for £145, but not over the internet unfortunately.
I can vouch for totalcycling too - they still seem to be cheapest for silver 75s at £129.99. Hubjub now £148 for silver.

Condor are selling the Sugino Uno crankset for ~£60 in silver or ~£70 in a variety of anodised colours. Spoke to one of the guys, who told me that the Uno was identical to the Messenger. They have 170mm and 160mm with a variety of 1/8" chainrings.

Skillz GA2G!! exactly what I needed is that!

Alright - cash is a bit of a hindrance for me, wrecked my cranks by pedalling with a loose bolt (which eventually pinged off into a drain)
Nice options here, although planet X have the Stronglight Mygal Messenger Track Chainset which looks like it'll do the job. £50 - nice

I ride 170s at the moment - toeclips keep hitting the floor so Im tempted my 165s - any benefits of a shorter crank?
-
• #49
Im thinking of getting those too but theyve run out of silver chainring ones! I already ride 165's Im only 5'8 so they are technically better suited to me. Shorter cranks makes it easier to spin which is useful for fixed riding. However you get a reduction of leverage so standing/hill starts will be tougher.

Whats the availability on these and is that £60 with or without chainring?
Very, very sadly, the Suntour Superbe Pro Track Cranks are no longer made.
http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/nn137/GA2G/SuntourSuperbeProTrack.jpg
More is the pity.
Suntour do still make some single speed cranks, but they're not worth it, compared to what they used to make.
But if you do want them, then check here and go to page 58. The importers to the UK are Moore-Large.
