I act like I'm about to die. So no singing or humming from me (would sound like a cat being strangled anyway)

I often sing or whistle, depending on what song or piece of music I think of.
-
• #9
I also do. Often while riding with other people. It's one of the little things that makes something already fun a bit more fun.

saw a girl wearing headphones whilst riding a bike. it must've been one of her favourite tunes playing, coz she was brocking out like there's no tomorrow.

yep - i whistle, hum or sing.
i rode for a while with ipod round london, but decided it was a bad idea. being able to hear things behind you (and at junctions ahead) is too valuable. and since riding fixed, there is less spare brain capacity to get bored, i found.

I whistle when I ride, its a really good trick on a club run to piss people off while they're gasping.
Apart from the pissing off aspect, its good because you control your breathing far more than normally, the steady breathing is very effective.
Occasionally club runs have been known to burst into song in unison, good fun if you know the words.
When racing or on a nasty climb I count up to ten in my head to get the same regularity, when pursuiting or on a "10" round Hillingdon I repreat the lap I'm on all the way round- ok sometimes I forget where I am..........
The other trick is to hold the tongue slightly up and made into a point and just inside the lower lip(while the gob's open!) and breathing is easier.
I've been learning Barber Shop singing for few weeks now- great fun, great learning about a number of things, and lots of learning about breathing and breath control, some things you never knew you had. We were given a couple of articles written by Beatrice Unsworth- The ins and outs of breathing, and Paul Moore- Your very first release, they're probably "Googleable" they're very enlightening indeed.
I don't profess to be able to sing, other than Wanderin' star after a few drinks (!!), but in a group I can do it, ok get away with it. The course is run in George 4th pub in Chiswick www.meninharmony.org.uk, and its free, you pay £15 at the start, and get that back after three attendances. We're all novices so the initial singing test was a worry for all of us. Oh and its a Fullers pub which helps lubricate the throat.....sorry, men only though for the course, I'm sure there must be a women's version around somewhere though.
Anyway keep singing- its good for you, its very relaxing

I whistle for two practical reasons:
a) when i am riding where there are peds present it helps them notice me
b) when I am riding in a group especially if I sense that a rider may not check where i am if I am behind them.. it lets them know where i am and again, avoids accidents.I sing - just for fun and IF i am happy enough to be singing then I really couldn't care less who hears.

Theres nothing better than seeing someone pedalling their arse off while belting out something crap at the top of their lungs.

I'm sure it's a perfectly simple singing group, but www.meninharmony.org.uk sounds like a gay dating site to me.

I whistle when I ride, normally something retarded like Frank's version of New York, New York... I have no idea why I would choose to whistle a song like New York, New York while riding my tarck...

A really good cheesecake is better. I also like ginger beer.

Yeah... perhaps a rash statement.

I always have usually some Dio "Gypsy" or "Rainbow in the Dark" in my head. I also find Euro beat such as "go go beat crazy" seems to get me pedalling my arse off at some mad cadence. I don't hum them or sing them usually.

Do you whistle other versions of New York, New York too, or just Frank's version?
Hum or sing when they ride?
I do. And end up getting a really dry throat.
