@skinnygav - Merckx, as well as producing beautiful top level racing machines, also at some point slapped his name on some budget steel, sold in supermarkets and the like. I'm sure this has cost some eager beavers dear and made a few tinkers a bit richer over the years. I am not the expert on this, hence why I stated it as my belief rather than fact, but looking at the pics yields clues - slack geometry, naff components, etc. Caveat emptor.
does anyone know how to spot these falcon-made models? i personally have no idea, and so as a rule, i just avoid all merckx frames with the logo in a yellow band, but i'm sure i'm also ruling out some really nice frames as a result of this.
