how would you know what a smell is, when you breathe exclusively through your mouth?
ha ha!! I have no idea why this was deemed a comeback but funny anyway..

Any chance we could have a sequel around early-mid September? I'd love to do this ride but i'll be in Ireland in August.

i was going to suggest the chevy in stratford being as it is a professional drinkers pub and actually has authentic folk jam sessions with real old timers and banjos etc. the guy serving it has a perm from dublin circa 1982 and if memory serves me correctly and i haven't embellished this tale over the years, me and jonny actually saw a guy pass out at the bar drinking. he remained balanced on his head for a few seconds before slowly falling backwards and comatosing himself on the wooden floorboards. he was causally dealt with by a couple of other drinkers.

Even though I dont actually like Guinness, I may create another Guinness cake especially for this ride.
Is that the Nigella recipe? I've been looking for an opportunity to revisit it as well! (Made one for a birthday during Lent, and couldn't eat it because I was off sugar.)

10/12 pints, no chance! I did 9 and rode home after the FA Cup...I was in bits, fell off twice and had to push it home :-(
-
• #67
I doubt we will find 10/12. If we get 6/8 with a lot of riding and water in between it should be fine
-
• #68
Will need a good fry up before departure to line the guts

Out of interest what are peoples 24 hour Guinness pint record?
Mine is about 18 (I reckon - I lost count) and involved the first pint at about 7.30am at Heathrow airport at continued in Dublin (rugby 6-nations) all day. I had a sneaky snooze for an hour at the back of the pub which was full of Irish and Welsh on the lash.
My mate also had a smoke outside with Neil Kinnock who reckons to this day he was the funniest bloke he has ever met (the numerous pints of guinness though probably helped).
It's sounds alot but when you stretch it out over a day it's not that savage. Some very funny stories emerged from that weekend and we won (the Irish that is).

If it is open at the weekend, the O'Neills on Canon Street, has a superb pint, and really good monster all day fry up.
Also all those who have tried the pint at Saaf London's famous Coach and Horses, will surely vote for our beloved local, but maybe too far to travel for the other metropolitans?
Mulligans in Mayfair is an excellent location, but may not take kindly to a pile of cyclists thundering in, and not ordering a dozen oysters each. Will be close by during the week, so will check out the lie of the land; purely for the betterment of you lot, of course. . . . .

Options:
Montague Arms-new cross
O'Neills-if open

the chevy-stratford
The auld shillelagh N16and any other suggestions people have, the maybes are route dependant as they seem a bit out of the way, will sort out route and see if we can fit any in
I think cut it at 6 maybe seven if there is somewhere spectacular that we have missed.
Will recce the route either before the 6th of Aug (if we sort it in time) or between 23-28th. volunteers are welcome. Will be mainly for the route, but of course we will stop off in one or two.
- The Royal Oak-Vauxhall
