i know this ain't garage or whatever but i reckon the folks on this thread have great taste in music are the only people i can think of right now who might give half a fuck but I JUST MET ALEX CHILTON!
what a sweet dude. just saw big star (alex and jodie with two of the posies making up the awesome, awesome band) supporting the tindersticks. i really don't like the tindersticks (understatement) and left after big star but was rewarded with running into alex wandering about the outside bar area in a little corner of sunny hyde park. i promise i've never done this before to anyone but i collared him, gushed a little bit and took my picure with him. hehe.
amazing gig. amazing dude. such a shame the stupid crowd didn't know or care who there were. although i suppose it was kinda cool cos i got to stand the front hollering along and chat with yer man afterwards but... i dunno. so sad really. they started 15 minutes early, about 10 people seemed to know the songs and during their set, which probably only a couple of hundred people bothered watching. someone actually shouted out "who are you?" to which alex sweetly and totally unphased replied. "oh, i forgot to say, we're big star". i probably shouldn't have, but, giddy and stuck for words i mentioned it when i was talking to him and he just said "i guess someone didn't know" and smiled.
gig of the decade.
puts #1 record back on very very loud
i'm so happy right now.
You were lucky catching him in a good mood, he was a jerk the last time I bumped into him, but that's kinda normal... Alex is/was a genius... Have you got the *What's Goin' Ahn *LP? It's full of rough mixes/alternate takes from the first two albums... I'll burn it for you if you don't, essential listening for a Big Star nut...
I'm listening to Big Star now... :] -

Obvious or not it's good music and this thread is for sharing good stuff not about who can come up with the most obscure. I know about tons of music, But I have already learned masses more than I knew before.

Seriously, none of these guys made a penny for ages from their own music. After 40 years of recognition but no dosh, Fuck it, I forgive em for wanting to make a few massively deserved bucks for their efforts. The record companies certainly aren't going to cough it up at this late stage.

Are you talking about those insurance commercials? That is a travesty of great proportions. Not sure what he was thinking with that one.
