That is lovely, I think I might be in love.
i was tempted to do the whole white vittorias, saddle and tape when i have some funds together over the summer. tempted... but may stick with how it is as i quite like it and the charge u bend bar tape is dirt cheap and seemed shit at first but has grown on me

This bike (singlespeed, 24-spoke wheels) is freaking amazing for drawing attention..
1) Every fucking 10 meters someone comments on it, "look at that!", "LOOK AT THAT WEIRD BIKE!", "HOW DO YOU GET UP?", "HOW DO YOU GET DOWN?", "YOUR NOT GONNA RIDE THAT ONE HOME FRIDAY NIGHT!" and so on and so on.
2) People film me with their mobile, and take photos of me all the time..
3) Yesterday some guy even asked me if I want to be in a documentary about bikes.haha... it's amazing :) and a fun ride..

Hello!
I got my first bike as a birthday gift when I turned 23 or 24.. I forget. Anyway, it is my first bike and came with steel wheels and gears. It has since then lost weight and upgraded to 650c Velocity wheel-set and has a flip flop hub (I ride it on the fixed side now).

I will be in London June 26-July 5 .. hope to join you on some ridesI'd like to get my missus a bike like that, but it would have:
tape on the bars
foot retention and/or a back brake

I'll join in for some love, and the fact that I had a nice picture taken of me. Good times.

I love how any bike covered in stickers these days is classed as a 'rat bike'...despite the brand new wheels, thomson, dura ace etc :)
Absolutely ridiculous isn't it.
The term 'rat bike' needs to be abolished. I blame edsquabble
Ha, agreed.

Oh, and I claim 'rat' on my tall :)

i can't believe you have a front brake on that.
i used to build tall bikes.
fun.

fun.The brakes don't work that well.. but it's stoppable.
I am thinking about using MTB-pads on the rear brake, might help it stop better, the front don't need to work too good :)Actually it's more of a problem that the bike want's to wheelie all the time (since the saddle is right above the rearwheel). No out of the saddle sprinting when the light turns green ;)

yea we just spot welded the freewheels to make shitty fixed gears out of them. didn't have brakes. believe it or not, they are much easier to ride as a fixed.

A ridiculous question, made even more ridiculous by a lack of budget.
I'd recommend a t-shirt from the London Courier Emergency Fund.

how is it ridiculous beyond the lack of budget?
-
• #8042
Budget isn't mentioned only asking for advice on a gift that's not a courier bag.
My suggestion; a good lock.
Or if he's already got all the gear check out Swrve clothing, good stuff there.

Esther Bunny, I might have seen you today at Broadway market at 2 ish. Very distinctive bike.

This way every ride is a vintage jersey ride!

Because it is so vague. The fact that your boyfriend has been riding a fixed gear bike for about a year does not provide a great basis from which to reach ideas for a gift of unspecified value.
I know lots of people who ride fixies enjoy cider. Buy him some cider.

• #8046
Get him a Rapha silk scarf. They're a bit expensive, mind.
-
• #8047
i'd be well chuffed with cider

I think most questions that have more than one occurrence of 'any' in them aren't very popular, as they're actually quite hard to answer if they're so vague.

christ i was just asking for some advice, tom, you don't have to be such a tosser.

For the record, I'd be stoked if my missus posted that.
Lock is a good suggestion from El Squire. Upgrading to nicer bits is always good, but hard to tell without seeing the bike.
What is the budget anyway?
yr not even bringing that one to london! :)
