• Moonshine?

Hopefully won't be a problem. Metcheck reckons clear skies and a low of 12c. Fingers crossed it doesn't change.

What do you mean by 'trailblazers', neverclever?

There's a little light rain forecast, but nothing major. It'll be a warm and mostly dry night. I can hardly wait.

• ...and no wind!

• still up for this, but my boss was pretty vague about weather i could have the day off.

hopefully will be signing up tomorrow

• Looking good for the week-end. Just a quick reminder to all to check their bikes over, especially tyres for any hidden bits of flint or glass that may be about to work their way through to the inner tube, pack a spare inner tube, and take some food (ideally something savoury that can be eaten in small mouthful-sized portions, and something sweet like flapjacks or energy bars) and drink.

With such a large group, it would be really good if we could avoid too many punctures, to avoid delay for everyone, as it won't always be that easy to get everybody off the carriageway where we might need to stop.

There will be punctures, and as useful social stops they have their place, but too many isn't a good thing.

I'm really looking forward to the ride! Not looking forward in how I normally look forward to a ride, but even a lot more.

I'm VERY excited myself. Seeing my bike all packed with foam last night made me very happy. Even better was the realization that transporting the bikes wont cost us extra! So thanks so much for letting us along.

Oh and trailblazer is a term for a tour guide. I guess in the old days guides would burn marks into trees to make a path. I suppose it's more used here since it's a name of a professional basketball team.

No, the word itself is perfectly familiar over here. I was just wondering about your use of it from the context:

ha! right. i was checking weather. com and it says light rain saturday and sunday. we'll ride regardless but we'll need some trailblazers ahead of us.

This sounded a little as if you connected it with rain in some way, as the trailblazers who know the route were of course always going to come on the ride. See you Saturday!

• someone (SJ!) f'ed up the list!

• Oh, thanks, DirtyD. I hadn't noticed.

• right, I may be offline for a few days. If so, I'll get on in a cyber cafe closer to the weekend, and I'll PM you my number Oliver, so if there areany problems..

I've got spare tubes, the map printed out and I'm ready to ride as slow as the slowest person so backstop covered..

• Oliver: If i'm backstop will you need my phone number? PM?

• Thanks, guys, don't worry too much about phone numbers for now--we'll do a swap session at HPC. I don't have a mobile myself, but there'll be enough around to keep us covered.

• Any recommendations for bags out there?.

Carradice FTW.

(sorry, just got one a few weeks ago and well chufed with it!)

• Aggggggggggghh.
My remedial housemate crashed riding home drunk last night after borrowing my lights and shattered them...
My bank account is absolutely empty at the moment so the prospect of replacing them rests entirely now on whether I get paid for some filming I did between now and Friday...

• I have front and rear cateye's that you can borrow. Just bring some spare batteries as i don't know how long is left in them.

Remind me via PM if you want them

je t'aime

I'll keep my fingers crossed that I actually get paid (I would quite like to eat this week) but if not I'll let you know with time to spare.....

• Hello…
Looking forward to the ride!
Do most of you have fenders on your bike? Would you recommend I make one for the back just for this ride?
thanks

What does this mean??

• Fenders - American for mud guards.

I don't use them but there may well be wet mud on some of the small roads, under the trees, where the ground never totally dries out, decision is yours.

• It hasn't rained much lately so i'm sure you'll be fine. Could knock one up in a jiffy while waiting for everyone to show up if it looks gloomy.
Saying that i'm rocking full front and rear fenders and a rack loaded with beer. no soggy back for me

• just got some decent lights for this. hope vision one for the front, cateye ld1100 for the back.

looking forward to it!
