  • Hi all,

I have finally killed my Giant hybrid commuter and am now wanting to get a fixed wheel but cannot decide what to go for! I don't want to spend more than £350-400 and prefer bullhorns but can always convert.

I have see the SE Lager, best price I can find is on evans for £420(Black & red)... Also seen seriously cheap Create bikes, but not sure on the quality for £200...

I would appreciate any advice and will consider buying second hand if anyone has one going - the funkier the better.

    Cheers - Gif

  • Look in the classifieds section or search OTP.

  • Aaahh! Just looking at a Bowery - http://www.londonfgss.com/thread23941.html asking £290 - am not that knowledgable about all the upgrades etc, do you think its a good deal?

  • Should be fine, Plenty of people have them, only bike snobs will mock. Buy it, ride it, be happy.

  • You dared donate to the forum. I seem to have one too, ooh.

  • Thanks to all: you saved me from GumTree-stolen-bike-immorality and UniPac fail, (some people do UTFS and JFGI) and directed me to cheap Fuji Track goodness.

  • Hey all,
new to the forum, found it while looking for info to convert an old mtb frame. I was wondering if anyone knows if 700c wheels will fit or if I'll just have to stick to 26" rims

yup, veLLo did this a while back on his beater. Should be plenty of clearence due to larger tyres and mudguard space on the mtb to put in a 700.

you may have problems with the reach of the breaks... but that's a matter of fitting what you have and seeing if it works.

  • About the brakes issue, it's not exactly a cheap solution but netherless by using a disc brake hubs laced to 700c wheel would do the job, it's also not hard to find a rigid fork with disc brake mount on it for cheap too.

hippy, the MTV generation ended almost 15 years ago, followed by the 'z' generation (similar to generation x but more simple minded) followed by the 'LOL gen' who gave rise to the u-tube-gen, who quite frankly have the greatest potential but the most diluted drugs so are doomed to dullness too.

  • Is it not 1993?

  • Is it not 1993?

Yes. I mean, no. Sorry, what were you saying?

  • Hello all,
Another newbie to join the ranks.
Just got the internet at home so am a net newbie too. This is the first group I have joined and rightly so as bikes (and fixies especially) are what I spend at least 99.9% of my time thinking and talking about when I am not actually riding.
I spent nearly 10 years travelling and funded it living in Holland which is a great place for ? things.
I own 3 fixies(too many?/not enough?) one of these fine steeds will be taking me 40 miles from my Essex hometown to Hackney on July 4th to do my 3rd Dunwich Dynamo and I cannot wait.
Nice to be able to introduce myself, happy times ahead.

  • V sorry if you have heard, or even answered this question many times...but.... Whats the best single speed commuting bike upto £500. Have kind of narrowed it down to the likes of SE lager, Charge Plug, Giant Bowery, and Trek Soho S. Am i way off the mark?? Whats the woo har over steel and ally too?

  • Hi there the wilfer,
I guess you are new to this like me, go and have a look at the nursery thread about posting questions which may have been asked before to avoid getting ripped to shreds by the old hands on this forum.
Steel/ally? try both see what you like is my only suggestion. Everybody seems to have a preference one way or t'other.
