Formula One ( F1 )

I'm pretty sure it would go back to Grand Prix World Championship which is what it was before F1, much better title than F1 I think, F1 sounds to dull whereas GPWC makes you think back to the days of gentleman racers, of course you could argue that going back to GPWC will taint the image that it had but I won't be arguing that =P

I disagree--I think F1 is a very good piece of branding. It really is a very grippy and convenient phrase. That F1 itself may have got duller over the years (I wouldn't know that it had, it's just what I seem to be picking up from this thread's comparisons to motorcycle racing) doesn't make a difference to that, I think, although, of course, if the declining quality of the product has cheapened the brand, it may be time for a re-branding..
