your spleen, under normal circumstances is pretty small, and protected by the rib cage anteriorly, laterally, and posteriorly. Important for this discussion is the fact that the left kidney and adrenal gland are located posteromedially.
blunt trauma to either side is more likely to hit a kidney. and it's more likly to happen on the right because that kidney sits lower.
now if a human has just had mononucleosis, or maybe some infiltrative process is going on, inducing splenomegaly, this discussion changes dramatically.
