well, it's been at the LBS for the last 2 days and they're stumped. they've also covered it in grease, which is nice.
they didn't try another set of wheels, though, as they're not a hipster bike shop so didn't have any track wheels about.
crack in the frame has been all but ruled out, having been thoroughly inspected.
