This sounds like exactly the kind of ride I'd want to go on! We do the same kind of thing here in Los Angeles. Alas my gf and I are flying in on the 27th. We need to secure bicycles and then we can think about going on a ride. We ride fixed here but I imagine the only kind of bikes we can get without giving our wallets away are some crap mountain bikes of craigslist? In any case HELLO! This is my first post and I'm Daniel from Los Angeles. We'll be there for a week and hope to ride around with you lot. I'd post an introductory message but alas I'm in the nursery. If anyone can help out on acquiring bikes on loan or for cheap that we can ditch after let me know! Thanks! I ride a 52cm SE Premium Brew and she has a short 43cm Fuji Track. We'd return the favor greatly if you ever came to LA!

Yooo, what time are people thinking of heading to Hyde Park? I'm gonna be getting a train down and the last train still gets me there for around 11. So anyone making a move a bit early?
Also I don't really know London that well, so is there any one who wouldn't mind meeting me at Liverpool Street station? Hyde Park is not far from there so I'm sure I could find my way (maps are usually good to me), so not to worry if not.

Upon further review we've decided to take our spare bikes. We're not guaranteed to come yet as who knows how we'll feel when we get there but we're going to try! Since we're going to have bikes now I'm wonder when the ride starts?
"We'll meet at midnight at Hyde Park Corner on Saturday the 27th, so technically the date is Sunday" or on the calendar "Fri, June 26, 11:30pm – Sat, June 27, 7:00am"

If you overnight to Brighton on the same day as arriving from some far flung land, you'll go down in forum legend. Well, for a bit anyway.

The ride is Saturday/Sunday, not Friday/Saturday. So, midnight between Saturday and Sunday.
Thanks for pointing out that the calendar entry is wrong--could someone with access perhaps correct this? I don't have access to it.

How cold does it get on these night rides? Do I need to wear the full cycling regalia or could I get away with jeans, a t-shirt and a light jacket?
-
• #109
I can't predict the weather, but on a summer night ride you can usually get away with two thin cycling jerseys. On the first half of the Dunwich Dynamo, for instance, I tend to wear just a short-sleeved jersey and put a long-sleeved one on top of that for the second half.
(I wouldn't wear jeans on a ride like this, unless you're happy with them scraping across your knees, and if it's wet, you can get into some serious pain that way.)

It will take 30 min to ride to Hyde park from Liverpool street if you don't know the way anyway so you won't be hung around for long.

We should get to Brighton not long after sunrise, and as there are trains back to London every fifteen minutes or so, you should easily be able to go to the Attack ride, although probably not on that much sleep!
Seeing as I'm not able to do the day time ride this weekend.
What's the general plan for returning - Is this a two way ride, or choo-choo train back home?
I'm looking forward to putting my fixed / fixed hub to good use for once.
There are various options for getting back. As I said above, there are very frequent trains back, with decent on-board bike facilities. It is probably worth getting (an open) ticket in advance, as you might have to queue for a long time at the counter if you want a railcard discount or something like that (the machines only sell fairly expensive tickets).
I'll probably ride back to prepare for doing the DD there and back.

Just about to lay my greasy mitts on supernova e3 dynamo lights for my schmidt hub. Annoyingly this is on my surly long haul trucker(well its not that annoying:) ). Only lighting options for my fixed are 1led knogs so it looks like i will be coming geared. If this is against the general feel of the ride i'll beg/borrow/steal some decent lights for my fixed.
Could fit the schmidt front wheel to my fixed but wouldn't be able to fit the lamps cos of different ways of mounting. grr. -

Come on whatever bike you like, Ed--I wish I could ride fixed on hillier rides myself, but unfortunately I can't. If you'd rather be fixed, sort out the lighting for that, but there's no compulsion at all.

Half an hour? Thought it was only a few miles. But ok that's cool. I'd imagine the traffic is reasonably quiet at that sorta time? Ahhh dunno. Cheers man
