Upon reviewing the receipt form there was the added cost of lights (£18.99) and a freewheel (£10), despite the guys saying their hubs are flip-flop (freewheel/fixed).
Without defending the other stuff, to be fair, the freewheel stuff sounds like it could have been a misunderstanding. The hub is, almost certainly, a flip-flop hub. That does not mean it comes with a freewheel cog.
Hopefully you're happy though!

It is not right to defend Condor, especially if they fuck you up with an order. But I use Condor more out of loyalty and convenience.
But i don't get why they treat some customers badly.. fuck there are loads on this forum that are a little cheesed off with them. Obviously, if i call in asking for a Fizik Arione CX saddle or Mavic Kysium wheels they want my business, and give my a good discount as a regular customer and treat me well.
We should post a ratings/poll of a few London independent shops, that might make them listen to their customers. Lets find top five for the people to champion.. between say Cavendish, Brixton, BLB, Condor, someone choose another.
I'm not sure that all customers are treated badly, it's just the ubiquity of the internet now means that those people who don't get the level of service they were expecting, and that might be unrealistically high, have the opportunity to vent their frustrations on a public forum.
I've a friend who runs a bike shop and there is one poster on a well known cycling website who takes every opportunity to slag that shop off due to what he perceives as a bad experience there. I've talked to my friend and other members of staff in the shop and they have a very different take on what actually happened.
It's very easy to slag off bikes shops online. A more constructive approach might be to contact the manager or owner of a bike shop when you've had a bad experience and explain what happened and why you're upset. Mosts bike shops I've used welcome feedback and, once you've established a relationship with them, will go out of their way at times to help you with something.

I don't go to Condor much but when I have they've been fine. Not exceptional but fine. Like when I'd shed some chainring bolts and I was without spares/tools and they fixed it on the spot. That's nice of them.

condor's the only place I've ever been told I ride my bike wrong ... I have bent a couple of CXP33 rims and have been told this is not possible if I'm riding them right! haha. I just smile and wait for the kid to grow up a little.
condor are pretty comprehensive in their stock, so I do use them if I want a specific bit. my LBS has more engaging mechanics so they do my wheel builds etc.

they were extremely nice to me when I went in recently. I would go there again. Bit pricey, right enough.

I am shocked to say that I recently had some great service there.
I'm not a Condor fan, and have told often how rudeness in there from one member of staff led me to purchase a Serotta from CycleFit instead of a Colnago from Condor... their loss.
However Condor do have a great range, and the clothing range is unsurpassed in London. The gu (older one, bit shaggy looking) went and dug out some shorts that I wanted that couldn't fit in the main display area (because of reduced space whilst the refurb happens), and then took more time out to dig out some other stuff for me. After all of that he even gave me a discount.
So yeah, they were great recently. And the guy who was rude to me ages ago was nowhere to be seen. I guess he must've left a while ago.

I found the opposite, very interested to speak to you if you want to buy, BUT aftercare, servicing and general questions - poor. Although recently they have been very good.
New store should be up and running now(?).

I bought the wrong brake blocks from them. Only found out when I tried to fit them. Not only did they take them back, but gave me the right ones and didn't charge me the extra.
Which was nice. -

Back open now. It looks very nice and much less cramped than before. Almost like a boutique shop.

That's what to do at lunch sorted for me then.

Like the new integrated bike stands and automatic double doors ... At last a bike shop with easy access for people with bikes!

They seem to have got friendlier as well. Maybe they're enjoying the new layout.

I went in a couple of weekends ago to order a new bike and although I had to wait a while the service I got was excellent. In addition the guy helping me was training another member of staff so I got an insight into the whole fitting process as they talked through all the adjustments.
They were also friendly to my 2 year old who had to sit through the process which was a plus

I must say I had a most positive encounter with Mordor a few weeks ago. They had a slightly hard to find 2007 hub apparently in stock somewhere and they went out of their way to look it out for me in double-quick time. once they found it they had it zipped over from their warehouse there and then. The guy even said "the most important thing is that you're (me) happy"... most unlike my past experiences. Two giant foam thumbs up.
