i am now wondering if the shimano BB condor incorrectly fitted when they built it has damaged the cranks.

somewhere on sheldon he goes on about what happens when you mix JIS and ISO tapers..

sure if one has a sharper taper and you fit the other sort of cranks on, it'll open the crank's square hole up won't it? in a not very good way.
