Flight Control is a game well worth 59p
If you own a Mac then Rowmote is worth getting for 59p too. Like Remote, but you can use your iPhone to control more than iTunes, stuff like VLC Player, Front Row, DVD Player, Keynote, Spotify, etc etc. -

Plus the iPhone 3GS is out, now with video and other fun stuff!
WooHoo!

Sadly O2 would like those of us with an iPhone 3G to bend over sans trousers and with a thick leather belt between our teeth in order to upgrade to the 3GS.
That said the most important thing is the software upgrade it would seem from doing a little reading.

do'n't upgrade dude, keep the pants on unless you one of them
-

Ah wait till the 17th and we'll have software from the 3G S either way, not worth upgrading, it's just a telephone in the end.

Has anyone saw this. SportyPal It is also a application for mapping routes.
I still don't have a gps unit, so have been using applications like this for a long time now.
The new feature with this one, that i'm seeing for the first time at these type of applications is that can be installed and used
on any type of mobile phone that has GPS in it.
And i must say that is very accurate for a phone application. -

The update is available now, pretty big though, 230 Mb!

Video and improved camera would be nice...
Compass would be nice...
Bit more vavavoom in the processor department would be nice...But nothing essential.
The rest is all OS as peeps have said. So we get search, cut and paste, horizontal texting, mms and all that other good stuff.
I will be downloading that tonight.

Upgraded to the latest software revision and it has borked the WiFi.
I can now no longer get the phone to see any wireless networks, which is rather annoying.

updated, and me phone is working fine,
am having problems with it synching automatically, so am having to do it manually even after I restored the original settings, gets to me contacts and then just hangs.
hey ho.. -

I have put my iPhone side by side with one of exactly the same model- his picks up wi-fi instantly, mine cannot see any networks.
A quick Google reveals that if I were to take the phone into the Apple Store they will tell me that mine is "water damaged", and therefore not eligible for replacement under warrentee.
This despite the fact that the water damage would appear to have occured whilst the software update was running...

Your iPhone has a small sensor at the end of the headphone jack, you can see it with a bit of effort if you shine a good torch down there.
If the sensor is red then your iPhone is water damaged and will not be replaced.
If the sensor is white then your iPhone isn't water damaged and will be replaced on the spot (no repairs for iPhones, just replacements). If the sensor is red and you glue a small disc of white paper on top of it and it resists the pressured air that the Apple folk will spray down there to try and dislodge it then you get a replacement.

It's white (racist!), so they may play nicely.

this seems like a good place to ask this.
My iphone dropped out of my bag the other day when i was walking into a shop, and the screen has smashed, its quite sharp so i've put it in a case whihc makes it huuuge but at least now it wont cut my fingers while using it.
my question is what are my options?
my phone is a year old as i got it the day the 3g ones were released last year, which was about this time i think, and i wouldnt neccesarily mind an upgrade to the newest one, although im not sure any of the new features are anything to get excited about.

Smashed screen = not covered by warranty unless you can convince them that the phone spontaneously combusted or somesuch?
You can upgrade to the newest iPhone by paying off the rest of your contract and taking on a new contract... if you talk nicely/harshly to O2 or Carphone Warehouse you may be able to negotiate a deal (more expensive contract for instant upgrade and old contract cancelled, etc), or you could try threatening to leave the contract and get a different phone/provider because the shitting iPhone broke?

3.0 baby! Yeah!!! Woo Hoo ...
Sorry you're having problems Dammit, and Ed, sorry to hear bout your broken screen. I'd go for an upgrade.

Below text from a friend who did exactly the same thing Ed- I asked her how much/where for the fix:
"It was about £70 and I got it done in a shop in Wimbledon. It takes about 2 hours.. Google iPhone repairs in Wimbledon n you'll find it."

ED, some of the mac techies here, said to wait for a couple of months until the initial 3gs take up slows down then O2 will be ringing you up with discounted offers to upgrade to the new phone.

Got the white screen of death yesterday, hard reset does nothing. Funny cause it still works, if I feel it vibrating I slide to answer and can talk fine. However screen is completely blank.
Off to the apple store now.

Jailbroken 3G is running like a dog.
Been using it tethered to laptop as a 3g modem though, and it works remarkably well.
Incidentally, WunderRadio is the ducks nuts. The last couple of nights I've been listening to Chicago Police scanners. Better than any soap opera... if a bit of a weird thing to do.

Balki . . . you scare me!

It fills the time while Im waiting for the new edition of "Guns and Ammo" to be delivered.

On a serious note, its quite interesting listening to the dispatchers and the responses. Its all very matter of fact. Heard responses to shots fired, street brawls, deomstic disputes, some guy thrown through a restaurant window. Plenty happening in Chicago.
There are also stations with Air Traffic control and Rail Control.

Just a side note: If like me you're iPhone 2G contract has come to an end and you think upgrading's too expensive, you can get a £19.50 sim only deal with 600mins, 1200 txts and unlimited data usage on O2 with no contract and keep using your current iPhone (without cloud access or visual voicemail) indefinately:
http://shop.o2.co.uk/sim-only-simplicityMeans you can save a few squid until the price comes down and then upgrade however you like.
+1 to rolando. fucking amazing game.
ebay app is pretty handy, and much quicker for checking your watched items then loading the page on safari.
free translator is brilliant.
wifinder is great for stealing wifi that the iphone wont notice on its own (weak signals etc) really useful abroad when your data roaming is off.
and flixster is brilliant for cinema showing times and films, trailers and cinema locator. well intergrated and actually useful.
all free except rolando, which is well worth the £2.99
