  • No JPS livery though. Boo. Fag packet cars FTW.

  • I think we all should. ;)

Apparently they selected too short a gear for 7th in the Brawns, the wind direction changed from a headwind to a tailwind along the main straight which buggered up their calculations.

In other news, we may be seeing Team Lotus back in F1 next year.

that will bring some much needed life back to F1 ...

any rumors/news of the budget cap's fiasco?

  • Yeah but Team Lotus will have nothing to do with Lotus Cars, it will be another Norfolk based company, Litespeed, but still it will be good to see them back in F1, y'never know, we could have a JPS-esque livery, maybe get sponsored by Marmite or something...

    Maybe not.

I presonally prefer the Gold Leaf livery myself, and best of all, the plain BRG/Yellow livery, but still, least it gives me someone else to annoy for my placement year! =D

  • any rumors/news of the budget cap's fiasco?

All the teams have agreed, but they're now negotiating the actualy figure of the cap, it'll probably end up around £60-70 million, then be down to £40 million within a year or two.

That's simply not correct. The teams haven't agreed to anything yet, it is still a deadlock.

I didn't say they'd signed anything, but from what i'd heard the teams were in agreement about the idea of a budget cap, but not the figure.

Anyways, Ferrari, Red Bull, Torro Rosso, Williams & Force India will all be racing next year, along with the 3 new teams USF1, Manor GP and Campos GP, all 3 of those using Cossie engines, McLaren, Toyota, BMW, Renault and Brawn have all been asked to rethink their conditional submissions in order to get onto the grid next season, or else more of the new teams that are lined up for entry will get their place.

  • Slightly OT here, but is anybody watching MotoGP at Catalunya now? Also don't forget guys, Le Mans weekend =D

  • This is the sort of thing that makes me want to stop watching F1:

    YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.

Even though I don't follow either driver for the last 3 laps or so I was shouting at the tv, fantastic racing!

This is the first I've heard about Cosworth's return to F1 (I'm not the most avid follower). This is great news, I used to work at Cosworth Racing in Northampton from 99-02 as the forklift driver and storeman when it was under the control of Ford USA. This was the time when we were building 9 engines per team per race for F1 and we had the works Jaguar team (great engine, poor car), Arrows as a customer team using the previous year's engine (until TWR got up to some naughties I believe) and Minardi (R.I.P). This is not to mention the works WRC Focus for McRae and Sainz, and the championship winning turbocharged V8 for Champcar in the US.

Happy times indeed, used to be cool seeing Eddie Irvine or Nikki Lauder wandering past the window, or seeing one of the WRC engineers hooning a fully road legal tarmac spec focus up the street. Sadly Ford USA might aswell have been handing out cash on the street rather than selling cars and they cut us out. This coincided with the F1 regulation changes to 1 engine per race, by far the most profitable section of the company, which made the company look pretty poor value to potential buyers. I don't even remember who bought the company (I was fired shortly before it all went off), but motorsport was not the priority and around 80% of the workforce was laid off, leaving only 1 of 3 shifts in the machine shop and a skeleton design team intact.

Anyways, hopefully a lot of incredibly skilled people will be able to return to Cosworth and it can continue its proud heritage in motorsport rather than putting its name to dodgy bodykitted Range Rovers.

  • webber to win at silverstone?

  • Wouldn't be a bad bet, i'm thinking Barry has a good shot at it myself.

  • he would if he didn't drive with a grandfather clock strapped to his wrist

  • Hahaha i've never seen that pic before, when I first saw it I thought it was Marlon Brando!

And here's a better video of the Moto GP scrap, including Rossi's amazing overtake on the second last lap:

  • Pretty big news here guys, breakaway series confirmed!

The latest word from Italy is that the NASCAR teams are sitting up and taking notice of some of the engine technology which is available now in Modena, Italy, and that High Performance Engineering, a company run by Piero Ferrari (Enzo's son) is to be developing engines for one of the NASCAR teams in 2010. It is not clear which teams is involved but with engine development largely in the hands of the automobile manufacturers Dodge, Chevrolet and Ford it is likely that the work will be done for one of them. The most likely connection is with Chevrolet as there are links between General Motors and Fiat. HPE is independent of FIAT but works for both Ferrari and Maserati, doing high-performance engine development work. HPE is owned by Piero Ferrari but the Ducati company has a 40% share of the business. HPE, which is headquartered in the same building where Enzo Ferrari started the car company, has been responsible for some of the more interesting developments Ducati engine developments in recent years. In 2003 the company joined forces with a company called Iniziative Tecnologiche Applicate, run by Dario Calzavara (a man who was once head of the Pirelli F1 programme) to build a motorcycle called the Terra Modena SX2 which featured a 450cc HPE engine, which was designed for racing and to attract customers for roadgoing versions of the bike.
